I'm thrilled for you. It's great when you find an instrument that really inspires you to play. Having said that I will say this, I've made the mistake of trading guitars for other guitars and I always seem to miss the one I gave up.

I had an '87 Strat Plus that I traded for another Strat. I still miss that guitar.

When the novelty wears off and visions of Strats of days gone by start consuming your thoughts, you'll know what to do when you cannot take it any longer. And when this time comes, remember, we told you so.

Just out of curiosity...
What kind of Strat was it and how long did you have it?

The 339 is a beautiful guitar...

It was an American Standard (sienna burst), and I had it less than 30 days. with the return of the strat ($1,100.00), I payed like $830.00 after tax for the ES-339.

I'd guess at somebpoint in time you will come back to the Strat and Gibson and Strat will live together under the same roof.

I returned my Strat for a Gibson ES-339. I love Strats, but after playing this guitar, I just couldn't not get it.

Please forgive me... :(

Yes, I agree........you need both! I love my Gibsons, but always end up back with the Strat after a few tunes!

I have a Stock American Deluxe Strat, and it does pounding metal like any Gibby will do. But It will also do great thick single coil (neck) lead tones, that a Gibby will NEVER do! As well as Country, Blues, Folk, Rock etc.. Strats can do it all! But hey, lots of folks love their Gibsons!

Well...

The 339 didn't work out. There was a spot on the body that looked like the wood could seperate right along the binding. I returned it for another of the same model. When I got the new one home, I noticed a spot where the wood was acually seperating along the binding. It was pretty close to the same spot as on the first one.

I did not want to chance on getting a third one incase this was a common problem with this model or not, so I played a bunch of different guitars and wound up getting this one...

2005 Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 Flame 10 Top

It was new and in great condition. It listed for $5,128.00, and the tag said $3059.99, and I got it for $2,879.00. I never checked out a PRS before, but the moment I started playing it, I realized how much better the build quality and playability was. Every detail was better than any guitar I have owned or played, and every note just rang out beautifally. Very very very nice guitar.

Here are some pics...

Looks like Whale blue- I have a PRS 513 in that colour. They're great guitars! The build quality is stunning, but so it should be.

I'm meeting Paul Reed Smith in a few weeks when he visits the UK, should be v interesting.
