I wouldn't even go by Blue Book pricing as its authors are a handful of more successful dealers, annually fixing prices around their inventory.

If players got together and refused to pay these exorbitant prices, they'd literally drop overnight.

Imagine how all us old guys feel when we see Fender Strats that are from the '50s/'60s that we bought and sold for $100-300 years ago, going for upwards to $35,000.
Just because they are OLD!
So really,your roadworn,relic rant is a minor thing. :)

martian,

your exactly right. i have a big collection of sports cards. havent bought any in a decade plus. this too is the way the card shops sell cards is by the beckett price guides, but they sure dont buy them by that guide though. why is that? same as above.
beckett is tied in pretty tight with several successful card shops across the US.
and the same with the price fixing with these guys. funny how that works isnt it?
to me thats dishonesty. you really got to watch yourself when it comes time to spend money. everywhere you turn theres somebody there ready to screw you.
you have to be on top of your game these days. i dont care what you buy or how much your spending, you have to research every step or you'll get the screws put to you.

Ain't it the truth! :x

Again, if everyone banded together to put a stop to it, it would stop rather quickly. Unfortunately, there will always that ilk with more money than brains who want what they want come hell or high water and they shall continue to pay the outrageous prices; and an even worse type who actually believe it is worth every penny. oh yeah they do. i like the people that see huge prices and think
"damn if it costs that much its gotta be better than..........." idiots lol. i see it all the time
martian. i dont know, maybe i shouldnt make fun. they are programed that way and they inturn program their kids that way, and on down the line it goes.
funny, my g.friends cousin just got married last summer. the cousins mom let it known several times that the reception and wedding were just over $30k.
i asked my g.friend if she wanted a wedding that cost that much, she laughed
"you think im a freakin idiot do you". she said why in the hell would i pay that much to make sure everybody that attends has a great time and eats and drinks expensive as possible? "screw that its my wedding, not theirs". lol
she said she would rather have a few select folks at the wedding and then a small reception, take the extra money and stay longer on the honeymoon and put the rest in the bank. wow! i couldnt agree more with her. its been studied, 90% of the expence of a wedding is spent on the guests, or for the guests sake. think about it.
30K? lol thats 4 CS guitars, 4 vintage amps, whatever she wants, 2 months in panama, and still a load left in the bank. she has huge ties to panama so im sure if we got married panama will play a major role in it somewhere.

My son has been saving his allowance money for a new Fender. I have been checking ebay and craigslist keeping an eye out for anything that might be a deal. To be honest for the prices people ask for stuff I'd just go to the local mom & pop music store we take our lessons at and buy new. It doesn't end up being that much more money and I know I'm getting a new authentic Fender, not some beat up, abused or counterfeit junk.

not a bad idea, or just keep an eye out on craigslist. if your interested in a guitar ask the guy if he will meet you at the store to get a sells rep to looksee at it,
to make sure its what you want. deals are out there ya just got to look for them and try to make a deal when you see one. buy him a good solid MIM strat. skip the squier's. you will only be upgrading soon if you dont.

If you buy your guitars from a reputable store you don`t have to worry about fakes or guitars dragged on the back of their trucks to make them look Road Worn. Personally, I don`t care much for that look and the Road Worn models that come from Fender have a phony look to them. I keep my guitars as clean and in as good condition as I can.
