Just because you have never cared about your mid-90s stratocaster and have kicked it down the stairs spilled beer on it your friends do what ever they want to it when they are drunk does NOT make your guitar a ROAD WORN or RELIC guitar and it does not make it worth $1000 you MORONS. Also if your guitar is a Fender Starcaster it is not the same as a Fender Stratocaster. Sometimes I think you should have to fill out an application or a IQ test before buying a Fender.
I think Im better now I just had to get it out. :D

Sounds like someones bitter over not being able to pick up a cheap Strat they wanted.
Personally I don't care what people do or the price they sell their guitars for.

If your looking on ebay its not where the best bargains are. Still you can set up price filters if you like.

WTF?!?! This isn't a place for selling guitars, so what do you hope to accomplish with this misdirected rant? About that IQ test,....

No offense but if a guitar is beaten, has chipped paint, is worn down, i think its road worn.

If it hasn't been down the road, it ain't road worn. It might be studio worn or practice worn, but it ain't "road" worn. And frankly, I wouldn't buy a Road Worn guitar for 15 cents on the dollar. IMHO it just shows you don't know how to take care of your stuff. And my dad used to beat me for that...

I find it funny that people actually ask these prices for guitars, and hey, if somebody buys it off of them and they are happy with it, Great! everybody goes home happy. It's only money, and it's only guitars. I know I've wasted a LOT of cash on gear I thought I wanted then traded it for something else, bought something else, Whatever..... Who's it hurting. 8)

i feel your pain OP.
we have those types around here too. if it says fender on it that alone is worth $500 in their eyes lol. they even thing the squier is a top notch guitar and they will ask sometimes more than they cost new just because its 10 yrs old lol. what idiots.
ya gotta wade through the idiots before you even get to the guitars sometimes.
theres a guy up the way here that has a "fender strat case" for sell. its one of those old $9.95 cardboard cases for like a tesco or Kay guitar. hes had this dang thing up for months now at $30. OMG  hes relentless with this. 1, aint nothing fender about it.
just cause its shaped like a strat doesnt mean..............
2, its not sold after all these months, that should be a hint. i just want to go buy it and burn it in his front yrd just to get it out of the way. :x
people dont research the going prices before they offer something up for sell.
"ive had this for 6 yrs, but never played it". i dont give a rats azz its still used people.
what kills me is the folks that buy lil johnney that squier and amp combo kit for $150.
in turn he doesnt use it so the break it up and try to sell each piece for $100.
what douchebags. i just had a guy contact me a few weeks ago. he had a set of lollar
strat pups he wanted to sell me. they were nice pickups ok but he had them in his guitar for 6 months he said and wanted $30 more than they cost new. the going price had dropped since he had bought his and got around to installing them, playing them, then trying to sell them. i threw the red flag on his play from the get go. i told him i could get brand new ones with warranty for $30 less than his used ones. he got pissed and told me he paid more than that for his so he was asking more. i laughed and he got even more pissed. i told him i would give him 1/2 of the newly advertised price for his set. suddenly i was trying to rip him off. what a dirt bag this guy was.
then theres the guy who has a squier and has dumped in $200 worth of pickups and a bone nut and wants $300 for it lol. its a SQUIER. i dont care what youve put in it.
i had a guy that had a mim strat, i believe it was a 200 model.
graphite nut, pups, new strings, locking tuners, all things he had added to it ok.
he still wanted $550 for it. he got bent when i told him it wasnt worth that to me.
i cant and wont pay a premium prices on a used guitar just because someone has dumped a load of extras in it. i gotta really like it in order for me to do that.
ok so youve hit hard times and need $600 to get you through. that doesnt mean your guitar is worth that much does it? people put crazy prices on things these days just to make a buck. buyer beware.

Did anyone notice the 'relic' on eBay last year where the 'string wear' marks on the maple fingerboard had been obviously gouged out with a Dremel tool? Duh...

So many fake on Ebay, COAs pups, bodies, etc...
You just need to know exactly what you want and get proof of origin and availability

I feel your pain. I see a lot of poorly priced Fenders on ebay all the time. Everything from a custom shop guitar that the person wants what they originally paid for to all those Fender instruments with little gold and metal dicks on the back of the neck advertising them as, "50th or 60th Anniversary (Input guitar model here)," when they are not.

In defense of pricing; a guitar is worth what people willing to pay. People need to start looking at the blue book prices.

Also, "Road Worn" means "is beaten up" not "More expensive."

You know there was time when a used guitar was just a used guitar, not an investment plan.
