I have a MIM Standard strat and i changed the tuners for some fender schaller locking tuners.

Is the string tree useless now ?
Should i stop using it ?

Please help me.

Best regards

I put the same tuners on my Strat. IMO, even with staggered tuners, there's not enough down pressure on the E and B without the string tree. I use a tiny dab of petroleum jelly on each of the nut slots, and a tiny dab on the undersides of the string tree. Plenty of down pressure, and my Strat does not go out of tune.

I leave the string tee with the locking tuners. Mine never goes out of tune.

For you info, string trees do not add tuning stability.
The aid in getting a good break angle off the nut so the string can ring out clearly when played open. Staggered tuners helps as it lowers the strings height on the post.

Schaller locking tuners lock the string on the post.
This is to prevent string slippage when tuning.
If you don't have these type of tuners you can wrap your string on in a locking fashion to achieve the same effect.

I should know this already, and I did but forgot.

I am putting Fender Pings locking tuners on my MIM.

The tall posts go on E,A,D and the short ones on G,B,E? Yes?

One other thing. The only time one would not want string trees is when the neck has a roller nut, such as an LSR or a Wilkinson. The string trees defeat the purpose of the roller nut. Locking tuners simply make sure you have a good grip on your strings and make string changes a lot easier. You can pull the string through the hole, tighten the know on the back and cut off the access. They are great improvement on any guitar.
