Yup, print this out on heavy stock and hold it to your fretboard:

Thanks, but now I'm really confused. What exactly am I measuring and where on the fretboard does it go?

It's the curvature of the upper side of the fretboard you are meassuring, how 'round' the fretboard is.. imagine a circe made of frets, the radius of this circle is what you refer to

The neck letters (C,V,U) is the shape of the neck

I love the 7.25......but with larger frets for bigger string gauges.Superior for blues bends!

Take your strings off and hold the template to the fretboard until you find the one that fits the curvature of your fretboard. Doesn't matter where on the fretboard you do it. It's very simple. The rounder the fretboard the smaller the radius and vice versa.

correct me if I am wrong. If you were to swing a compass @ 3 inches and then again @ 6 inches. make a line exactly the same length connecting to each of the arcs. Which crown is higher from the line? Therefore making the larger number radius flatter than the lesser.

A 7.25 radius is rounder than a 9.5 radius.
A 9.5 radius is flatter than a 7.25 radius.

I really have no radius preference ... give me any radius and I'll adapt to it within a minute or two.

About the only things that would bug me are if the action is way too low, way too high, or the string spacing is way too narrow.

Thiis sums it up for me too.

Hello Jes and All,
I seem to have speedier fingers on the flatter fretboard
but I like the comfort of the more round one.
I like 'em both.
Cheers.
