Hey all,
I was just wondering.
I just got some custom made pups put into my AM Stratocaster. As a result, i have some very nice stock fender pickups id like to utilize.
I was wondering if any of you know which/what strat has a high quality body and neck, but crappy pickups i could stick my fender ones into.

eg:

- MIM Fender Strat?
- Squier (doubtful haha)
- Roadworn?
- Highwayone?
- non-fender brands?
- say a body and neck from fenderreissue?

Ideally id like to keep it around $600AU (around a MIM price in aussie), but not at the expense of quality.

thanks in advance :)

Check out my post thread " Stratopartster I and II rebuild " as far as using a Squier as a rebuild.
It is in this section of Stratocaster.

Hi musicmadness: take a look at the Squier Classic Vibe Strats. Those are possibly the finest thing at a low price point you can buy at present; way ahead of the money asked for them. The timber I've seen on them was just great - hard to believe that they're budget instruments.

But if you get one try it with the stock pickups first. They may not need replacing!

Good luck - C

That's a good idea.

Then he could get a Squier Affinity in which to put the Classic Vibe pickups.

I second the Squier CV Strat. The ones that have come into the shop are pretty amazing, and I enjoy my CV tele. Candy Apple Red is pretty striking I might add...

Beautiful - cascading pickup swaps! I love it - where will it end?

The Classic Series 50's Stratocaster has my favorite neck of all Strats I've tried, US and MIM. It's going to be different from your US strat in that it's a rounder radius, narrower neck and "V" shaped back, all gloss with a deliciously aged tint.

Don't think the pickups are bad, but they're not held in the same esteem as yours or Texas Specials. IMHO, Body is just as good as US, cept no microtilt. Another big difference is that they have a vintage width bridge giving you more spacing between the strings.

US eBay auctions usually price at $350-450.
