depends on the airline, flew from CA to NY with a gig bag as a carry on, but they had a special area by one of the attendants stations for it. Unfortunately, that was when I was 18, just over 15 years ago and now I feel old for answering your question. Call your carrier.

Frankfurt is off my places to visit right now!

And just think ...these guys are the same ones that load the Mail or packages on a plane and now you wonder why stuff gets broke in transit. It is not the post office that breaks your stuff...it is the airlines! I used to work with them and I would NEVER trust them with my guitar even with a hard shell case inside a flight case :!:

Most airlines have "gate check", there will be a place for you to drop your guitar at the door to the plane.

You could also ask the stewardess if they can put it away for you. When I brought back my '78 from Canada the stewardess put it in her closet.

i fly to houston alot and i always bring my seagull grand. I use a soft road runner case but its very thick and i put it in the overhead compartment.

i talked to a few musicians who travel alot and most agree that if you are putting guitars in the overhead soft case is best because its easier to get in and ways less.
