I have a chance to buy a 2006 closet classic for $1650, which best I can gather is not much cheaper than sold for new. I know the newer CC pro strats are listed at $3100 & go for $2300-2400.

I like the guitar but the fret wear is not insignificant. I'd feel better at around $1350 with $300 saved for a later fret job.

Any opinions?

How serious is the fret wear?

Any possibility of a re-dressing to return the instrument to spec?

A total refret might run $275 to $300 in my neck of the woods.

In my area i know a guy who does a total refret for 150 if you supply the fret wire

Had to dress my Custom Classic soon after I bought it. Paid £1000 for it which is comparable to $1600. Wouldn't think twice of doing it again.

A few fret dings don't ruin a good guitar. How bad is the fretwear? $300 is excessive in my opinion. A fret dress is a hour and a halfs work. Unless those frets are worn so low they need changing anyway, theres no need for anything other than a dress. Or partial re-fret if the nut end frets are really bad.

You can get a fret re-dress for $100-125 in my area.

I'm more concerned that if I buy the guitar & invest in a re-fret, I won't be able to sell it without losing $600. I have a perfectly fine 1996 American Standard, I paid $600 for. I'm wondering if I should just look at a used American Deluxe in the $1000 range.

There aren't that many data points on google, but looks like the CC pro strat goes for $1100 recently on ebay to $2300 for a new 2011 CC pro strat.
