Thanks, Orville Owner!

I built that guitar to help me transition from a 30-year Les Paul habit back to a Strat due to unforeseen health issues. The bound neck provides a very "Gibsonesque" feel and the SCN/S-1 combination permits some pseudo-humbucker tones when necessary.

Arjay

Arjay, what is the sonic difference with the hard tail vs the tremelo model?

Clapton's old 'Blackie' fitted with five springs, the mass block flush against the body rout, and the bridge on the deck was done so to emulate a hardtail, but he felt the trem system with the springs lent something to the tone which solid wood failed to. Later, in the new guitar, they inserted a wood block between the mass block and the trem rout, I assume, for the purpose of increasing sustain. Hardly a comparison in that the new guitar also had much more sophisticated electronics. There certain can be no argument about the tuning stability though. Different strokes,

Thanks ZZDoc. I was aware about Blackie and the EC Model (have a '89 in pewter) and his view on the blocking of the tremelo. I was really looking for more on the tone of the RC hard tail describbed which Arjay and others did a good job on...may have to get my behind off the forum and go find one to try out...and I was about to ask about the binding on the neck, but that has been answered too!

Gotta love the forum, so glad we get so many responding with great
information, it brings so much to the musical table.

Yes they are awesome guitars and I will never get rid of mine...I won it in a contest down in Florida and it is even autographed by the man himself...did not know that til I went to pick it up...when they first came out they weren't calling them pewter though, they called it anthracite (the color didn't change and somehow became pewter later on).

Keep enjoying that strat!

]Now there's an interesting plus for a contest prize. I'm aware of that name change. A.R.Duchossior makes note of that in his book. I often wonder exactly when that happened in the chronology of the guitar's production date because I believe it appeared at the NAMM well before they actually started producing them. I once owned a black '93 which I swapped out for something else and later came to regret it. When this '89 came along, I grabbed it.

yep the EC it is easily my #1...although I only play it at home or very secure jam sessions...and at least you got one back...I like the anthracite/pewter color better than the black, it has a bit of an upscale classyness to it. I also like the lace sensors better than the new noiseless pickups, they seem to have more push to them and less steril...although when EC plays his, his sounds a tad better :!:

We seem to be in agreement on most of the aforementioned also Eric's tone has been a much discussed topic on these Forums and I have always maintained that deep dark secret is how his signal path is EQ'd. That's never really been documented. From what I've seen at the auction preview earlier this month, the evolution of his choices of amps and sounds systems over the years, and the residual markings on some of the pot settings, there's more than meets the ear where that comes from.
