I have a Highway One Stratocaster, the ones with the nitrocellulose finish i.e. "satin" look finish, which eventually can be buffed out to a high gloss finish. This is my first guitar with this finish and wanted to try out a little, so I did. It worked out great on the edges of the guitar, but I accidentally did it a little on the front, so I figured I would do it on the front too. Unfortunately it didn't quite turn out the way I planned. If you bounce light off of it, it is really un even and has some of what look like scratches. I'm afraid to try and keep buffing it out, but want it to look decent. Any thoughts? I'll post a picture here in a bit.

Strip the body down to just wood. Take it to a woodworker/cabinet maker and have him properly buff it out. Bring it home, rebuild it, love it, watch it age.

It hasn't aged more than 2 months :(. I'm probably just gonna play it the way it is, you can only see the marks when you bounce light off it at one certain angle.

If you bought it from a store you can return it no problem, just lie a little about how the neck feels funny. It's what I do when I buy a new guitar, and don't like it 2 months down the road.

Thats one reason why the Highway One`s are cheaper, the finish is not polished to a high gloss.

Are they just swirl marks or is it actual scratches?

I'm looking at mine...and to be quite honest.....

It's not going to bother me in the least when it starts to show some wear. The finish is OK, but I dunno...that guitar was just made for punishment.

I can't wait to inflict it in the right and proper way...

The finish wearing on my Highway Ones don't bother me too much either, especially since they don't have figured tops, if they had maple caps it might bother me a bit.
