Has anyone had any experience with Gotoh tuners or their quality? I was thinking of putting some on a strat. Thanks!

Gotoh used to be OEM on many Strats -- MIA, MIM, and MIJ.

FMIC switched to Pings a few years back to save $$$.

The Gotoh's were very good IMO, the Ping's less so.

The Gotoh's were also dimensionally identical with vintage or repro Kluson Deluxe machines.

The Ping's are not.

The reason I know this is because I've done numerous Gotoh-to-Kluson swaps on earlier Fender re-issue necks and the Klusons could actually use the Gotoh bushings if I happened to be too lazy to remove them from the headstock. The Ping's string post is dimensionally larger in diameter than the Kluson which rules out using their bushing with a Kluson. Likewise, the Ping's bushing requires a slightly larger hole in the headstock, which means the Kluson bushing needs shimming in order to achieve a snug fit.

It was a lot easier when there was only one Stratocaster "recipe"......Leo's.
