I was interested to know here it was made USA or Japan and in which year it was produced.

Guitar Info
This guitar is from the U.S. Vintage Series
made at the Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): Cannot be determined from serial number,
however you can consult this chart showing the
corelation between serial numbers and dates found on the neck
Fender MIA RI Serial Number vs. Neck Date

I got the same info from the guitar dater project web site too... but it doesn't give me the year of manufacture. and the link to the chart doesn't work.

Anybody else any advice on how to date my strat?

E-mail Fender, consumerrelations@fender.com, with your serial number and they will tell you everything there is to know about your guitar.

Pull the neck off. Any kind of code in there ST-54 or 57,62,70 indicates a Japanese instrument. Instrument dater will work for Japanese Vxxxxxx Serial's.
An American instrument will have the date of manufacture stamped on there.

May as well check the neck relief and make a adjustment if needed if you're taking the neck off.
