Now, I just got my new guitar, a MIJ 1985-88 with the Kahler Spyder tremolo on.

Got some strings on it, and wow, got 7mm action on the E string on 12`fret.

So, does someone know how to adjust/lower the action on a Kahler Spyder tremolo?

- I have never even touched a tremolo before..
sorry for my english, hope you guys understand it :)

Thanks for answers!

I have tried to lower the bridge, as instructed in the video, and I have tried to turn on the truss rod, but its still high. Around 5mm on the 17th fret. Fender says that on the 17th fret, its normal to have 1,6mm i think, so im still high.

What else can I do? Got 0.11 strings, and 4new Tremolo-springs at the back, so the bridge is straigt with body.

I think you need to have it professionally set up. Either you don't know what you are doing (the manual I linked to is pretty clear) or your guitar has a very serious problem. You DO NOT adjust the truss rod to set the action. Truss rod adjustment is used to set neck relief.

Got the guitar very cheap, but was told that it was complete, and fully working and orginal.
And a workshop hour costs alot, so thats why i havent turned it in yet. But yeah, a working guitar is better than no guitar atm.

The trem is straigt with body. Got 0.11 strings and the "trem posts" all screwed down, for lower action, but its still very, very too high.

I think i got it all worked out now.!

The bolts that the knife-edge on the tremolo leans against, are all USED up. Got 1/4 of the round bolt left, so i gotta get some new ones. The problem was that the knife-edge was not under the bolt.

Thanks alot guys

EDIT: haha, well, the nut was all used up, but it didnt change the fact that the action is high, too bad. Im thinking of buying a new tremolo. Sick of this crap

fyi, the trem body in the pic you posted isn't flat to the body. When I get home I'll post the same angles of mine.

edited to add: By flat I meant a neutral position.

Well, I cant get it further down, so I dont know what the problem is.

Do someone know if Gotoh trem springs are shorter than orginal ones? Im 2sec from throwing this guitar in the wall...

Im starting to think that my MIJ E-serial is not equipped with the kahler spyder tremolo from start. Altought, it looks like its orginal. It just wont fit. Even if i get bothered by this, its intresting and fun also ;p

Thanks for answer thought.

Actually it does look like a factory mount. Between the route and rubber pad under the back end of the trem, the route for the springs and claw, and the extra little cut-out in the pickguard it all looks exactly like mine that I bought brand new out of the box way back in the late 80's. When I get a chance tonight I'll take some picks that'll show you how my trem is sitting as well as how the springs and claw look in one that is playing uber-sweet. By the way, the guys at wammiworld http://www.wammiworld.com/ are great to deal with. they've had all the kahler parts I've ever needed. Knife edges and posts wear out a lot faster than you may think, especially if whoever had her before you thought he was in the nose of a B-17 all the time. The good news is parts are pretty cheap, it's easy as pie to do yourself, and the late 80's strats with the kahler spyder are great strats. take your time, be patient and everyone who plays it once you get it set up is going to ask you how much you want for it. Check out this thread here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50058
about your model strat.

Ah, that would be GREAT! Very good if you could get a picture from the side, and one from the top of the knife-edges. Then i can see how far it goes, and if my studs+knife-edges are fully worn, as i think they are.

Again, THANKS for the link, and for the info. Thats uber great!

Now that I've taken a look at mine, I'm thinking that you're problem lies in the knife edges and the fulcrum posts. Possible the threaded body inserts have shifted, but I really don't see how that could happen.
