Greetings,

I have the new Fender American Deluxe V which comes with the new N3 noiseless pickups + S1 switch.

Can I just replace the N3 to 57\62 Alnico's without any special wiring. How will the S1 switch affect the alnico's?

Thanking you in advance, Larry...

The 57/62's, like most single-coil pickups, prefer 250KΩ pots for both volume and tone controls. I'm not certain what's used with the new N3's -- you'll need to disassemble the guitar to check.

The S-1 volume pot is 250k, but IMO it's a bit of a pain to rewire that with standard Pup's.
I'm considering doing the same with a my S-1, SCN equipped limited edition '62 FSR.

I would recommend pulling the whole intact wired-up harness and replacing with a pre-wired kit (sans Pickguard and Pickups). I've wired a bunch of strat's but don't consider it fun in least anymore, and the pre-wired kits I used to get at Acme were great, with cleaner solders than I could do. I just soldered the the three white Pup leads to the correct switch lugs and all three grounds to one solder pool on the volume pot and you're good-to-go in 10 minutes.

Thanks, would you have to solder at the switch? is it possible to connect the new pups midway using the N3 harness off each pup? just a thought on my part. i do have the wiring sheet from fender.

If I understand you correctly, if you wanted to retain S-1 with other pickups, yes you would have to solder at the switch, and also on the back of the S-1 volume pot, and also at the common ground on the back of a tone pot. If you have diagram its not that hard.

If it's same as SCN Deluxes, wherever the colored (but not green) wires from N3 neck pickup went to, solder the white lead from 57/62s. Then wherever the blacks wires from N3 went to, solder the blacks from 57/62s. Just unsolder and disregard green leads.

If you meant could you desolder/solder at the bottom of each Pickup, you really don't want to do that. Plus your 57/62s are only two leads per Pickup.

The S-1 combos should work with 57/62s, and have similar effect

BTW, anyone know where did Fender move all their wiring diagrams, used to be able to link from each model to pdfs of wiring.
