As I'm still a newbie, am I wrong to assume that the BEST addition to your Strat is a book on how to set it up and maintain it? I just got Paul Balmer's The Fender Stratocaster Handbook and Dan Erlewine's "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great!" and already the first few little tweaks have made a noticeable difference.

They are certainly inexpensive accessories.

"Knowledge is power."

Both those books are outstanding.

Welcome to the forum!

crmartin the only thing you have to apologize for is that you should apologize to yourself for apologizing!!

No need to let a broken person try drag you down.

You have some cool gear (info on the hollowbody with the soapbar p90's?!)

I agree whole heartedly with you on 'budget gear' a bunch of us have talked about it several times. It is night and day from when I was a teen. back then most budget gear was nearly unplayable, and poorly constructed. Now for only a couple hundred dollars you can get gig worthy gear.

Like Nik i have some favorite gear that isn't 'premium' A close second to me Stratocaster is my mid 80's Ibanez. hardly a bank breaker, and not worth any more than it was 25 years ago but a more comfortable neck is hard to find.

Welcome to the forum, don't let that one incident colour your perceptions of the members here. It's a pretty friendly place.

Thank-you, I appreciate it. The Semi-hollow is an Xaviere XV-560. It's really a super guitar with a very nice tone that's great for blues. It had an unsoldered wire on it when I got it, but was able to correct that in just a few minutes, other than that it's really well made with a very nice finish on it. The neck is great with no fret issues whatsoever, lot of guitar for $250.

Don't listen to people like that. Your guitars look amazing and probably sound just as good as they look. No one has the rite to judge other peoples gear.

Keep rocking!

Indeed! That was quite a rude comment about CR's guitars, wasn't it?

I would like to hear about those Les Paul-type guitars. What/how are they?

As a fan of "Orville by Gibson" guitars, I am fond of Asian Gibson-type guitars ...

The Red one next to the red strat is an Agile AL-3100, it's an absolutely amazing guitar. The build quality is outstanding and sounds amazing. It has an ebony fretboard that is a joy to play. I ordered it with a wide neck that's slightly wider than an LP, I really like the extra width. The semi-hollow is an Xaviere XV-560, it's also a very nice instrument, not quite up to par with the Agile but gives me a great blues sound with the soapbar P90s. It had a wire that was not soldered when I got it but that was a simple fix. The lemondrop next to it is also an Xaviere XV-599. It is similar in built quality to the other one. It has one high fret I will get to in time, but for now it doesn't bother me as it is the bass side of the 20th fret and I don't play up there much. It's got a nice punchy sound with the humbucker pickups. The Xaviere line of guitars are a remarkable value and I highly recommend them. I truly believe the Agile line is the best value in a guitar that I have ever tried.

Hey man, great guitars. I wouldn't sweat the comments. Obviously some one looking to stir it up. As far as the comment just consider the source. Oh and by the way Slash played a Les Paul replica on Appetite for Destruction and Gibson recently made a signature series guitar to honour it. Replica or not its what you like and enjoy playing. Have a good one and enjoy those sweet axes.

Isn't it funny that some people can make heaven on the junkiest guitars and others can make garbage from the most expensive.

Look at SRV: I wouldn't have touched his Strat unless I was wearing latex gloves after all the sweat and cr@p that destroyed the finish and just about everything else, but, man, could he play! And he could play just like Clapton or Hendrix or anyone without blinking an eye just for fun, all on that rotted-out guitar. Clapton's "Blackie" was a Frankenstein he put together from bits and pieces he picked up over the years.
