Careful you don't get busted for posting such porn. They're absolutely too stunning for mere words...I think that my stream of drool would convey the message very well though.

Thanks for posting these; the Strat and the amp are both beautiful!

Not that the Strat isn't great on its own, but I really love how clean the amp is on the inside - a great feat of design and production considering these were actually "mass produced" back then. I'm sure Fender shipped more amps per week than any of the current "boutique" amp builders who still use turret boards do today (I'm thinking of Dr. Z and Carr, who are pretty decent in terms of production numbers, in particular).

I really like that ad from March 1956. Thanks for posting.

What's really amazing is the quality of the components Fender was using in the 50's. Look at the inside of the Tremolux, nothing got changed besides the tubes. Everything is still working strong. Leo and his team did it right back then.

That is so cool I just wanted to put it up again!!
I love those old tweeds.....the very first amp I had was a tweed my uncle gave me.

Thanks for the pics.

To me it's amazing just how right the early manufacturers like Leo got things right out of the gate.

Hey 56Strat,

Thanks for reminding me; I'll be over later to pick those up. Don't worry - if I don't bring them back soon, keep waiting. I'll get them back to you...eventually.

Beauty!

I recently read a comment by one Forum member that others didn't show pics of their vintage guitars ... while it's true that we don't really see very many, yours is an example that we see some!

Besides, if owners of vintage Fenders were always showing pics of them, the vintage-less folks would be calling those owners braggarts. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

I should look in my receipts, I have a Marshall stack turning 33 this month ...

the circuitry is simple and elegant that was their secret..
what is the large tube to your far left, the 3 on the right im guessing 12ax7, then 2X 6v6gt then, ???. and 12 in jensen?, no reverb tank

The schematic calls for a 5Y3GT rectifier -- I'm guessing that's what it is by the looks of it.

Wow, lot's of interest on the Tremolux.

You are correct, the schematic calls for a 5Y3. However the inside label says 5U4. The rectifier tube in the picture is a 5U4, followed by 6V6s, 2x 12AX7 and the far right one is a 5751. Originally Fender put a 12AY7 in the far right position, but in Tweeds I prefer the 5751 which is between a 12ax7 and 12ay7. I changed the rectifier back to a 5Y3, the amp sounds better with it.

The speaker is a Jensen P12Q. Yes no reverb, but I use a Fender Reverb Unit.

I think one of the biggest improvements Fender did in '56 with these Tremoluxes was the use of a Pro size cabinet. The '55s had much smaller Cabinets, like the Tweed Deluxe. The Pro size cabinet has a huge, positive impact on the tone.

Hadn't thought of the cab size, but you're right, the Pro would have had a 15" speaker.
I was remembering that the Tremo and Deluxe were in the same box and it stayed that way.

No, Fender put the Tremolux into a Pro size cabinet in late '55/ early '56 and it stayed that way till they changed the Temolux into a head.
