Hi, guys :o
I bought a like-new Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Sunset Metallic Maple Neck from musician's friend days ago.
But this one has a strange configuration makes me doubt its authenticity.

From the body, apparently it's a new Deluxe Stratocaster HSS model. But notice the nut, to my knowledge, new HSS model should come with a roller nut instead of slotted nut. And the slotted nut seems firmly attach to the neck, it's very likely to be original.

I wonder if fender has ever built a Stratocaster HSS like this?
After complain, Musician's friend sent out a roller nut to me today, but now my concern is its origin and authenticity. Could anyone help me!

Thank you! Sorry for my poor english.

It looks to me like someone wanted a SSS deluxe with a roller nut. Id bet someone ordered one of each (HSS and SSS) and swapped the necks.

Welcome aboard, hufeiyc.

I agree that it is a genuine looking Fender. I suppose you could argue to send it back and have them put on the LSR roller nut or send a replacement?

How do you like the compound radius neck?

hi Mike, I doubt this is simply not a HSS neck.

 I don't want a neck swapped stratocaster. This is weird.

Nothing wrong with a neck swapped stratocaster, especially if both body and neck are genuine Fender. However if it was sold to you as not a partsocaster then that is reason for anger. I have a few strats like that and they are some of my favorites. Eric Clapton and SRV also had "neck swapped strats" :).

You say you got it from Musician's Friend - do you know if it was a trade-in or if it was a return?

If it was a trade-in then it probably was a neck swap. If it was just a return I would assume that MF wouldn't take back an "altered" guitar then you could possibly have a factory mess-up. Fender's QC is pretty good, but things happen. I recall back in 2008 someone got an American Standard from a pretty well-known large mom & pop store that had the pickup assembly of a Highway 1 installed by mistake. The guitar was straight from the factory that way.

Thanks John, I have no idea if it's a trade-in or a return. Since this one shows no sign of usage and has unopened accessories. It's more likely to me that someone just deliberately swapped the neck and traded in. I have confident in fender's QC

Thank you, Yogi, I totally understand your point, but I believe what I bought and expected should be what I got, especially when this is my first time holding a strat.
Seller is responsible for the confusion they should clearly state the swap. I will try to argue with seller, return or replace.

Hi hufeiyc,

"Like New" in the description tells me that it is a used guitar. Not much recourse for a used guitar, unless the ad for it was deceptive. Did the add have a picture of the guitar that showed a roller nut when you bought it?

You could contact Fender with the serial number and find out if the neck is from another guitar or not, and/or whether it came with LSR. At this point, speculating is worthless, and can only cause bad feelings. Even if the neck is from an SSS, it is still the same neck, and it only takes a few minutes to swap the nut (which they gave you).

BTW, your English is very good. :)
