So what do yall think about the new American strats...imo just a marketing ploy. In the end what matters about the block is whether its steel or not and how its made...copper wont make that much difference. As far as the lighter finish goes...thats a nice improvement but is it really going to make that much of a difference...I mean when john mayer plays his sig on stage it had the regular poly finish on there....it sounded fine to me?

im not sure about the finish because although i think it does matter i think the chunk of wood matters more. there are many strats that resonate like crazy that have very thick finishes.

also i love that they infused it with copper because copper is extremely conductive. it is used for wiring, plumbing, and also pots and pans for this reason. i wish they would put a full size block in it though but i guess it would compete more with the reissue strats if they did that. also the old blocks had a lot of very non conductive materials in it that dampen the sound.

i adore the new strats!!although i think using replacement parts from other manufacturing companies you can make an american series strat better than the new ones. i take it as a given that if i buy any fender production guitar i will be replacing parts.

I love the new strats. I don't really care for the finish and whether or not it effects resonation. its only going to chip away anyway. This thing soundsand feels great and its only gonna get better years down the line, and thats all I care about. 99,900 pennies well spent. Great job fender.

actually, i think the changes make a difference.... i doubt the people at fender would redo a guitar and put so much hype into it without it being warranted.... i'd imagine it's better too because if you're going to change an icon, there better be good reason, and i feel there is

Careful, dude ... your previous post sure looked an awful, awful lot like spam to a few folks here.

Hey Iam new here, just wanted to intodurce myself and ask a question. How do you all feel the SRV Artist series stands up to the new American Std. Im trying to decide between going with the American Std, or American Deluxe to come along side my SRV. I know the American Deluxe has all the bells and whistles, but will I sacrifce going down to the American Std pickup and sound quality wise. I just want a regular strat like my SRV no locking heads ect ect.. just a strat that will sound amazing and off a different sound that is equal in its own to my bluesy SRV. Thanks alot sorry for the large first post.

I like how they've revived the hss strat for the series. Some of the new colors are cool too like sienna sunburst and charcoal frost metallic. Looks awesome on the basses too.

So I'm reading about the "new" American Standard" and they start referring to a resin filled tremelo block? When?? How can you tell? What years? Does anyone have any solid info on this?

Thanks,

TD

Apparently the company is using the generic HSH routing for this guitar's body and a bimetal tremolo block. I would have preferred a vintage SSS routing and a vintage block for more wood and mass for this guitar and no SSH option here. There are other choices in the Fender line for a humbucker if desired. The rest of the redesign is acceptable. For me, the term 'standard' begins with a body having an SSS routing and three single coil pickups. The term "American Standard", should apply to no other configuration.

The evolution of the routing patterns in these bodies is well documented and often constitutes the starting point for validating the vintage of an intstrument.

I have a Custom Shop built instrument, nearly three years old now, which is equipped with the Clapton electronics. The original Clapton guitar had an extensive routing to accommodate the battery and the preamp, but was not HSH routed for pickups. It was my expectation that an SSS routing would have been used. Now I am wondering whether MY guitar was begun using one of those HSH 'blanks.' The only way I'm going to find out is to lift the pickguard, and I am NOT going to be a happy camper if I find it to be the case.

I suggest you read my post down the line starting with the type of body routing. I do not know how they are doing the Artist series guitar but, for sure, the Tribute guitar was SSS. I would bet that both the American Standard and American Deluxe are routed HSH.

What you seem to asking for in your commentary is a guitar with vintage appointments i.e. strap buttons, tuning keys, bridge, pickup configuration. You also have to keep in mind that the neck radius and neck profile differ from the SRV Artist Series guitar. I would spend some time looking through the line and noting those guitars which meet your criteria, reviewing their specs, including the routing, and making your selections based upon that review. Then go out and find the guitars at a dealer and play them. ORDER the guitar unless they happen to have one in stock, UNOPENED. My personal opinion is that anything on the wall, though unsold, is USED because they have likely been 'auditioned' by many players.

Could you give me some information on this Wiring, and how it works sound quailty wise. You see I want a strat that is like my SRV in that it doesn't have locking heads ect, but I don't want it to be a lesser guitar because of pickups. I know the American Deluxe have a better pickup but as for the American Std. Im not sure how to commuincate this properly. Would the American Std be the guitar that (when the only choice were blonde or rosewood neck ) a normal player would play? How does it compare to an American Vintage, or is the difference being a modern interpretation with the same quality in pickups type thing, sorry im not to good at communicating myself.
