I have miraculously come across a 59 strat neck and through some wrangling
have managed to make it my own.

It has the thick brazillian rosewood cap,
It looks its age but the logo is intact and little wear on the refret job.
it has a nice chubby profile

I am wanting to put this on a 1 piece ash body but .. my question is..
what are the best pickups for an ash/rosewood strat?

Im not a big believer in boutique snake oil so I was thinking the duncan antiquity surf pickups or fat 50s.... and no I dont know what kind of sound i am after..Clean and articulate I guess, I think I just want to hear the ash and that warm brazillian rosewood thump

thanks!

A couple of years ago I built an ash-bodied hardtail but with a maple fretboard. The body is two-piece center-joined, with all-nitro finish. Per the debatable old wive's tale that tells us that this combination of lumber results in the brightest of tone, I selected the Fat 50's pickup set with standard tone-control wiring. The guitar turned out beautifully with those electronics. Very warm, very articulate, and plenty of "Strattitude". As pickups go, you could do a lot worse than the Fat '50s.

YMMV, HTH

Look into some CS54's.

My partscaster has an ash body and I installed a warmouth neck with the same specs as a 59 strat w/rosewood fretboard. Works for me.

Check out the line-up of Klein pickups... I'm sure if you were to contact them they would be happy to help answer any questions. The one set I've tried (the '65's) are amazing... no snake oil vintage hoodoo, just amazing sounding "straty" pickups. Very well made, huge assortment to choose from, and reasonably priced. Cheers.

Vintage rosewood neck on an ash body is classic Knopfler Sig. strat. You could check out the sound of his texas special loaded strat for inspiration.

+1

That would help to establish some baseline data.

Unfortunately, FMIC in its infinite wisdom has never offered the Fat '50s pickups in a regular production Stratocaster. You'll need to find somebody local that has a guitar with them to assess their tone as applied to your sonic criteria.

Personally I would add the Custom Shop Custom '54 pickups to your list to try out.

They capture the early Strat sound really well, and unlike the Fat '50's the middle pickup is like the old ones. No Reverse wound/reverse polarity.
