How do these compare against the MIM or the new Specials? Should I act quick?

Yes. The Hwy1's are going away. I own one and love it greatly. The American Specials have replaced them. Not to worry. I'm sure if you look online you'll be able to find pleanty of used ones floating around.

I really want one of the Road Warn Strats, but I'm not about to buy another guitar.

There's always a chance they could be discontinued, but I haven't heard anything official on the subject. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them going because of the American Special, but if I wanted one I wouldn't necessarily rush out and get one either. If they do go, I'm sure there will be a blow out sale from people like Guitar Center to get rid of their stock. You'd be able to get a good deal on one if it ever happened. Remember how they were all desperate to get rid of the VG Strats when they were discontinued?

Every person I talked with about the Hwy1 in music stores has been telling me that the Armerican Special is the replacement for the Hwy1.

Isn't the American Special basically a Highway 1 with lacquer and Texas Specials? Sounds like good value to me.

I've been hearing that about the Hwy 1's, but so far it's just been rumors.

Well, I work in a music store which carries Fender and as far as I know they're still in the running. The rumors that they're going away are just that, rumors.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear it. I really like those guitars. I just wish they would bring back sonic blue w/ a rosewood neck.

I've got the Sonic Blue with a maple neck however. Love this guitar, although I waffle on trying some CS69 or CS54s in it.
