Hello all, I'm hoping I can get some advice. I have a 2010 Custom Shop (Not an Eric Johnson) and my model does not have any string trees. As far as I can tell, the pitch of the head isn't any different than a Strat with Trees. I'm a little puzzled as to why this model does not have a string tree installed on it.

I am having an issue with the high E string popping off of the nut on the occasional hard up stroke and thus I'm wondering if I need to put a Tree on the head. I hate to make any changes to my Custom Shop but it is getting frustrating and distracting worrying about if my E string is still on the nut or not during a performance.

Thoughts......

Contact the Custom Shop (or your Fender dealer where you bought it if you bought it new) and they should be able to help you with this under warranty as it should not be poping the E out of the nut.

If it is used, then I would have the nut checked to make sure it is cut right then if that does not solve the problem... put a string tree on, it might have staggered tuning posts so maybe the original owner didn't think or want the tree...

Staggered height tuners on their own just don't work well enough. Even the EJ strat suffers from sitar'ing E and B strings. Though it's not as bad as taking the tree off a regular strat.
Always use em on Fenders, no exceptions.

Thanks for the input.

If the posts are staggered, it is to subtle for me to notice. As far as I can tell, they all seem to be the same height.

I guess I'll run it by the guy who does my set ups. If nothing is wrong with the nut or any other variable, I'll just put the B + E string Tree on it.
