I want to install sperzel locking tuners on my mexican strat but I think I will have to drill pin holes in my headstock. Is there a template or perhaps a step by step to help me with this process /????? Any info or tips would be hugely appreciated .. Thanks

I think you can get Sperzals locking tuners with one screw on the side if you look around a bit
check these out too- gearless tuners

Thanks , too bad already ordered the sperzels, the 40:1 gearless ones look pretty awesome. I think I saw them before on a Godin I played. I might have to order the jig, but I was a hoping for like a printable template. my friend told me that he got one when he orgdered his off e-bay so I thought maybe there was somewhere I could go and download it to print off.

If you don't want to redrill or get the jig/template you could always return the Sprezels and get a set of the Fender locking tuners; they are direct replacements for the Ping sealed tuners on the MIM so no need to drill new guide holes or anything. Not sure if the current Fender locking tuners are made by Schaller or Ping but they use the same guide pin.

I'd recommend the Fender/Schallers any day over Sperzels.
Any day.

PRS makes really nice, solid and extremely simple locking tuners but they're not easily adapted to Fender headstocks. I tried. They were that good.

Sperzels? Not so much.

Schaller only.

I had and american deluxe that had the schaller locking tuners on it and I didn't have problems with them but I found that I liked the sperzels a bit better. All my guitars have locking tuners so I can dive bomb and not worry about the tremolo throwing the guitar outta tune. I've just found that my personal preference was the sperzels.

Sperzels are great tuners, but I met Bob Sperzel at the Music Messa in Frankfurt Germany about ten years ago and Bob had breath that could not a buzzard of a sh!! wagon. It was actually funny, my friend that was with me didn't smell it as quickly as I did so I kind of trapped him next to Bob behind his counter display  ...whew that was some serious bad breath :!: :!: We still laugh about that one every we get together.

Sperzels are great kit on a strat. Love mine, work just fine.

Dont worry about marking out the pin holes. Just remove the old tuners and slide the new one in from the back of the headstock. Press hard, and the pins will leave a mark in exactly the right place for you to drill (carefully and watch the depth!) the headstock.
