Let me start off by saying I have been on other forums and my respect goes here for guitar wisdom. This is not for my fender but for my Ibanez. Its an Rg321 hardtail and I have new handwound mhd pups coming, I need to put new pots in it while I have it open. 500k master volume, and tone. Probably gonna leave the stock switch. Thinking cts but not sure which ones, (long short tapered)...any help? Again..SORRY this is not for my fender, but I go where the knowledge seems to be. This is my first changing of the electronics so thanks for your help. Guy

Ok niema problemu.

Whilst you have the guitar open, simply lift a pot from the recess. Then you will see if it is long or short shaft (taper deals with how it increases resistance).
If it's around 8-10mm on the threaded area it's short shaft.
Personaly if you don't want to get it apart now, just order long shaft pots with two nuts for each pot.
Use one nut to set the height of the pots shaft and the other nut to secure it. So that the body wood is sandwiched inbetween the two nuts.

(I wonder if the censor program will wipe this reply)

This should be the spec for what's in the guitar right now :

Potentiometer: 24mm 500K-D / 18mm length spline shaft

Which means it's really close to the non metric "long shaft' pots.

Yeah, but since you like to tinker, or you wouldn't be doing this, don't be afraid to try a few different values out, and see what YOU like best.

I ordered .022-.033-.047 orange drops so we will see. I'm not really surehow these caps affect the tone so this is all a guess for me based on q+a. I'm guessing that they control the amount of bottom end but I'm not sure which way the numbers work. Thanks for the replies guys.
