hello everyone, this fendersguitargirl uncle. i just want to say thanks to everyone and their ideas on tryin to help my niece with this project she has struck a passion for. i showed some of my fellow Marines you all's ideas and they were shocked to see that we still have some people who care about the Marine Corps. all is well over here in japan and the relief effort. just keep us in your prayers and wish us the best of luck.

If I understand your OP correctly you are trying to find something as a memorial to people who have died in Japan due to the disasters, right? If that's the case, I think a cherry blossom would be the perfect symbol. It symbolizes a re-birth so to speak, and I think would be perfect.

+1. Not only is the cherry blossom significant in Japan, the mayor of Tokyo (1912) gave several cherry (blossom) trees to Washington DC in an effort to build friendship/relationship between the two countries. In the '80s a flood destroyed tons of cherry trees in Japan & Washington gave trees back to Japan. Washington DC celebrates this gift (they received) each year with the Cherry Blossom Festival, which is actually going on right now in DC :) Long winded way to say cherry blossoms represent japanese-american relations.

Learn something every day. Thanks Carly, thats my bit for today.

No more learning for me for today.
