Thank you lindseyp!
It would look nice if it rolled with the contours of the body as well. A straight dragon would be awesome but in my opinion it would be way nicer if rolled with the shape of the instrument.

Well it may be down to lacking knowledge, it may be down to me having a totally different cultural background, it may be because I am a bit thick, but maybe someone can help me out understanding the thread: What is it about?

(honestly, I don't mean to mock or anything, I'm just a bit slow sometimes)

Sorry for asking a silly question!

Thanks

Nutter

He wants to show solidarity with his uncle and the people of Japan by placing something symbolic on his guitar, so he's asking for suggestions.

I AM NOT A HE!!!!!!!!!!! :x

What about a dragon? I mean it could be a great looking guitar to use in the future yet it would have a deeper meaning than just that.

Do correct me if I'm wrong but dragons are significant in Japanese culture correct?

Not to jump down your throat, but a lot of people died on that island - enough to make you know how it should be spelled and what happened there:

Iwo Jima.

Weeeelll...

While there are dragons in Japanese mythology (and most all asian/pacific cultures), Dragons are much more synonymous with the Chinese.

That being said, I think you could get away with a cool dragon just fine. :)

If it were Me, you can't go wrong with a Samurai warrior or the Katana... something any Marine could respect and relate to.

Inappropriate.

Iwo Jima?

You mean were the US Marines killed 21,569 Japanese soldiers?

Don't you think it's a bit insensitive to bring this up at a time like this?

The Chinese dragon is drawn with three claws to each foot. The Japanese dragon with four.

The eagle, globe and anchor with the japanese flag as a back ground would be cool. When it comes to Marines, not one of them I've ever met (I live about 500m from a Marine base) would be upset the Marine Corps emblem in a design.
