Hi,
few days ago I bought a used Fender Stratocaster (my first one)
made in Mexico
Serialnummer MN4 23058 (Made 1994 or early 1995)
Body in black with a black Picguard (over a white underplate) 11 Picguard-Screws,
Picups are S S H, 5 way switch, 1 Vol Port, 1 Ton Port
on the place for the second tonporty is on this guitar a switch (lever) for to change the Humbuckersound to the 3.Singlecoil (in Bridgeposition) installed

Unfortunately the seller has no Imformations about Body, Neck (which woods?) or some else - but he tells me, it is a specialmodel of fender and there were not many pieces of them built

Who can tell me more about this guitar
for exemple ... what a model is this guitar ... it´s a serial / standard one, or realy an extra edition, Which timbers were used?, which picups are installed ? and others more ...

If you need pics:

Thanks for all

hmm, I'm not an expert, but I personally think that the switch (and possibly therefore the bridge humbucker) were installed later. I'm not sure if Fender would use a toggle switch for the coil tap (that's when you switch from humbucker to single coil). They've tended to wire it "normally" but sometimes use the bridge/middle position with only one of the humbucker coils so that you have that paired with the middle pickup to cancel out some hum. I've certainly never seen a Fender (to my recollection) with no bridge tone control. Also, the tremolo arm has a white tip, suggesting that the guitar originally came with a white pickguard (and probably 3 single coils)

However, I may be wrong about all of that. Even if I'm not, most people will upgrade their pickups, so it's likely that you'll get something better than the '95 mex pickups in that scenario! :D

That's a home job - not a Fender customization. Cute how the seller told you there weren't many of them made...

The seller assured me that there was no home work, but an original. A special power start - just bought without any selfworks on it.
The tremoloarm are withe - okay ! - but the second base at the picguard are white too - Perhaps he purchased later - or even original at production.
I ask the seller. he swears its a original fender - he bought it as it is - no selfmade konstruktions or any modifications
I Think also, that it would be no problem instead of the 2. ton port the switch for the humbucker to ste to another place as on the port for the middlecoil - It would certainly be less burdensome as the middle give on the 5way switch only

I'm pretty sure that's not the way that guitar left the factory. If it's a rare one off, and I can't see why there would be a rare mexican one off, then he'd be charging big bucks for it.

I'd check to see if the neck and the body belong to each other. That body could be a modified mid 80's standard. On those, they only had the two pots and the jack went where you've got a switch now. He could have routed out a new jack hole. Throw on a a new mexican neck and there you go.

I'm pretty sure it's a Frankenstrat.

Either way, if you like the way it plays and sounds and you don't feel like you've been ripped off and paid too much.....then you've got a decent guitar.

I'm going to disagree with the others. I think it's an FSR or commemorative, because it's a copy of Kurt Cobain's black strat and I've seen at least two others on e-bay. I don't know if Fender ever made a Kurt Cobain strat, but I suspect some shop may have had a special run made. BTW, 95 MIM strats had poplar bodies, so that's probably what the body wood is. MIM necks where made in the USA and shipped to Mexico for assembly.

Slash49.......that's a Mexican Strat for sure. All of it is original. I purchased a few in the middle nineties. One I had was a vintage amber color and came with the same pickups as yours. I replaced them with VanZandts from Texas,it sounded great. If I remember correctly, the stock pickups that came with those also had "ceramic magnets" on the bottoms making them slightly hotter than average Strat pickups. What was really cool, to me at least.....was the fact that Fender allowed Mexico to use the famed "Spagetti logo" on the headstock, making it seem like a vintage reissue. With the right setup and better pickups that is a killer guitar! Have fun!

PS: The bodies were mostly basswood. Some of the see thru finshes had veneers glued to the back and front as well. Those are not special by any means,or collectable. There were not alot made, they showup on Ebay from time to time, people think they are frankenstrats,no they are not.

Finally. Somebody else with a guitar like mine. Except mine is sunburst with a rosewood fingerboard and has a 40th anniversary of the strat medallion on the headstock. It is absolutly a factory job. Serial Number MN409277.

It is called a Strat Special. They were made from 1993-1995. The neck is maple. The tone control is a TBX. I do believe it is a poplar body although it may have a different top (ash???). I don't recall.

Fender Strat Special RW Model #013-5600
Fender Strat Special MP Model #013-5602

I have all the information on it somewhere I'll see if I can find it.

Small bit of info.

Taken from Fender Frontline circa 1994-1996

It was part of the Contemporary Series along with the Strat XII and the Contemporary Strat.

The Strat Special-
Code:
Special Series instruments are carefully updated versions of Fender's Vintage models.  Body: Poplar w/Ash Veneer; Neck: oval shape; 21 AM std frets, 9.5" rad; E-tronics:  HB pu w/coil splitter sw (bridge), 2 SC pu's, Master Vol, Master Tone, 5-pos. ssw; Other Black Hardware, vintage bridge; Models:

013-5602 Strat Special, Mpl neck

They were made in Mexico and some (mine at least) came with a TBX tone pot. Mine is a 1994 model and has the 40th anniversary of the strat medallion on the headstock. It is stamped ST SPCL in the neck pocket of the body.

The Contemporary Strat was similar to the special.

The Contemporary Strat-

110-9272  Contemporary Strat, FMT same as 110-9202 except with highly figured maple top.

(USA)  Based on the successful limited edition versions. Body: light ash w/highly figured bookmatched carved Mpl top; Neck: lightly-figured Mpl, 22 Am std frets, 9.5" rad; E-tronics: HP pu w/coil-splitter switch (bridge), 2 "Texas Special" SC pu's (neck, mid), Duncan JB HB pu (bridge), Vol, TBX, special switching; Other: LSR nut, locking keys, Fender-Floyd Rose lcking trem, center pocket Tweed case w/red plush lining; Models:
