without relicing a guitar, will thinner layers of paint help simulate this effect

i got a fernandez strat copy from a guy i know, for free, decided to paint it. i spent a few days really sanding it down to wood grain. it had a gouge in the back, which is the only reason i stripped it completely. finally, after deciding on a design, i used my dual action airbrush and created what i called the monster strat. i put frankenstein, phantom of the opera(lon chaney sr.) and bela lugosi's dracula on the front with the words monster strat written in scary letters. on the back i painted the bride of frankenstein and a large spider web. it came out pretty good for my first attempt at painting a guitar. i just clear coated it with some spray enamel and sold it to a friend i work with for 150 bucks. everyone liked it. i would put pics on here but cant figure out how to other than going to photobucket to post it there first. if you want to see it you can always go to my facebook page and look in my folders. i have a couple of art folders there as well with drawings and airbrush paintings that i have done...i try to be versatile but portraiture is my strength. i have a painting of hendrix, srv, drawings of clapton, srv, hendrix, page, so on. type in my name if you have a facebook account and you can find me.....kevin w. hand.
for the monster strat all i used was some white createx airbrush paint and used createx for the rest of the work. everyone that saw the guitar really liked it. almost wish i hadnt sold it but i ended up buying this mexican fender strat that i am playing now. i love it. i have tex mex pickups coming next week to put in it. looking forward to that.

Hi blugtr59, and welcome to the forum! May your stay be a happy one!

Now, may I humbly point towards this little creation of mine to help with posting pictures. You will indeed have to use a hosting service like Photobucket - however I've heard it's possible to post picture URLs from facebook also. You'll figure it out - but make sure you show us that painted Strat you made- we love pics! :D

Cheers

Nutter

Pretty neat, huh?

So there you go. Some different options.

Good luck - C

Cheers for that Mr. C!

P.S. I'm still waiting for that "big beer" you offered to buy me... I suppose I'll have to hop the pond if I'd like to collect, eh?
