I would like to get a better sound out of my guitar.
My guitar has too much twang. I would like to have a pick up with more response and more tone. I currently have standard MIM pickups.
Can anyone recommend 3 pickups for bridge, middle and neck positions?

TWANG??? What are you going through and what are your settings? You need to post a sample of that. I would love to hear a Twangy strat! That is too cool!

Maybe he doesn't mean twang. Brightness?

So, to stratman68, I would suggest giving us more insight on what you want from a pick-up. Because in reality, you can't really get more or less tone, you can just get different tone.
More responsiveness however, can definitely be achieved(especially since your MIM still has those stock ceramic pickups)!

So tell us what you want! You want a darker sound? Thicker sound?

I have gotten so used to my wife saying "your guitar has too much twang
" that I actually used it in a sentance. Sorry guys.
I want less brightness from my pickups.
Definetly more sustain. Darker sounding.
I also want noiseless .

Probably just as important if not more so is what amp are you using ?

depending on budget, Guitar Fetish sells some great sounding pickups (not american made) , I used some vintage alnicos from them and they were great.

Or Fender has several awesome Custom shop pickup sets that will give you what you want, if you have the $$$$

Again what amp ???? the amp you use is debatably 65% of your tone.

Take a cheap guitar into a great amp = not so bad
Great Guitar into a cheap amp = not so good

I would suggest Dimarzio area '61, They will retain the Strat sound, but a little thicker, and they are quiet. They also make a bunch of great single coil sized humbuckers, if that seems to be the sound you are looking for. I put Dimarzio Cruisers in my Strat, Great pickups. If you have more cash to spend check out the Klein pickups, or better yet, Lindy Fralin Split Blades. Change your volume and tone pots too. put in a better quality set. 8)

You beat me to it, Marvin.

I use DiMarzio's in two of my guitars, configured thus:

Area 61 - Neck
Area 58 - Middle
Virtual Vintage Solo Pro - Bridge

They're well-rounded, plenty of spank on demand, and quiet as a church mouse.

......And they all use standard 250K pots already extant on most Stratocasters.

HTH

That's right! What amp do you have?

I stand by lace sensors all the way!
I use Lace Sensor Golds

But for you, I think the Lace Sensor light blue pickups would give you the sound you're looking for....and the sound your wife is looking for!

But yeah, give us the details on what amp you have, and anymore of your setup like pedals and stuff if it applies.

Happy playing!

I'll join with BB and ERAmp to ask this.

Suggestions: try using the neck pickup, try to lower all of the pickups (get them farther from the strings), adjust the tone controls on your amp until it sounds good. New strings usually sound too bright to me, so play it a while to put some "age" on the strings.

I have Seymour Duncan SSL-1's in one of my strats and really like the sound. Still has the Strat brightness but not "twangy" in by any means. Worth a look.

Your amp plays a very large part in your overall tone and should also be looked into. Try other guitars in your amp maybe the amp or speakers themselves are contributing to your overpowering treble sound.I have 2 MIM Strats with no trouble with too much treble. If you insist that you really need a pickup change look into Tex-Mex pickups-although not truly noiseless they are very quiet for single coils. In the meantime try to take the edge off your guitar's brightness by turning back the treble in the amp or guitar and adding a bit more bass and you may find that this is just the fix you need and save yourself the expense of buying new pickups.
