I was able to pick up a black 2004 American Deluxe HSS with the roller nut and the Floyd Rose trem. It even has the allen wrenchs mounted to the back of the head stock. It's in great shape. Is this a common guitar or is it sort of rare? I haven't been able to find much info on it. I'm more of a Tele player, but I think I got a pretty good deal on this one. What can anyone tell me about this guitar?

Did you mean an American Special Strat HSS? The American Deluxe HSS "LT" uses the Deluxe Locking bridge assembly, aka "mini-Floyd". It also sports locking machine heads, an LSR Roller nut, SCN pickups and S-1 switching.

The American Special has the original Floyd Rose tremolo and nut. It also boasts two Delta-Tone single-coils in the neck/middle and lacks off an S-1 system. Both guitars shared the same Atomic humbucking pickup since 1998, later American Special FRs were shipped with a Diamondback humbucker in the bridge.

From my personal experience the American Special Strat HSS with Floyd Rose has been discontinued in 2003.

Looks like the one on the bottom. The SN# starts with DZ3. Fender says American Deluxe. It also has a 50th anniversary neck plate that says 1954-2004. Very sweet playing guitar.

The D digits didn't necessarily mean "American Deluxe". The American Special series from that period came with the same digits used on the American Deluxe line.

There weren't American Deluxe Strats with the original Floyd Rose in 2004! These guitars came with the "Mini" Floyd Rose bridge. The last American Special HSS FR I saw was made in 2003. It came with a Diamondback humbucker instead of the Atomic used at the time.

Personally I strongly recommend you to post some pics from your axe and ask an expert such as John C and Nikininja. I think these folks might help you identifying your guitar more accurately.

Hi there to be honest I was initially a little suspicious with the dz serial but it may in fact be completely legit.
There is one similar on the bay but the guy has replaced the vintage tuners...another strange feature since I would have thought lockers would be the order so you learn something new each day.
Anyway the model looks like 1106500 and here is a link on the fender site that may help

The ones they made with the mini floyd were gorgeous! They didnt make em for to long as I recall?

I had one like the pic below. Floyd Rose Classic Strat (American.) Beautiful guitar, but that darn floyd sucked alot of tone from the straty.

Yes, that is the American Strat Special HSS Floyd Rose - which was originally called the "Floyd Rose Classic". I believe the "Floyd Rose Classic" name went way around 1999 or 2000 so it was renamed for the last few years of its run. I also think that the humbucker was originally a DiMarzio PAF Pro (when it was the Floyd Rose Classic) to the DH-1 humbucker used in the American Deluxe models.

Very nice Strat; you never saw that many of them to begin with and they are really rare these days.

Word to the wise:

Don't post pics of your full serial number or even type your full serial number in a post. Ever. Especially when you are posting a lot of different angle pics that show fine details of the guitar. Always use some X's to blank out the last few digits when you are typing and use a photo editing filter to smear the number in a pic. People can use that number and those pics for a variety of illegal uses.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Heres a link to my Photobucket Album for some pics of my 92 Floyd Rose Classic.
http://s262.photobucket.com/albums/ii119/ccemsa17/Floyd%20Rose%20Strat/
Note the "Floyd Rose Original" on the trem plate,
The DiMarzio PAF Pro (made for fender),
and the "Classic Floyd Rose Series" label on the headstock.
They later came with Dual Buckers made by fender. Not sure when they dropped the headstock decal. I was under the impression that the earlier ones were only made for export (the F prefix in the serial number). Hope the info helps, and never can resist an opportunity to show mine!
