Late last year I bought a brand new Mexican ash Strat from guitar center. Since then I have changed the strings, and did a set up. (action, tremolo height and truss rod.) Each time I notice that the g-string needs to be set much higher than the other strings to avoid rattling against the higher frets, is that normal? If not, what is wrong?

Also, anyone else have this guitar? Tell me what you think, I just love it.

you have a high spot somewhere along the lline with your frets, you need to get the frets leveled. you should be right as rain after that and a good set up

Actually I don't think that is the cause because I have this EXACT same problem on my new mexican strat.
I figured out that it's the nut. With a 9.5 radius gauge at the nut the G string is clearly lower than the others. This must be a problem with the machine that makes these.

I have learned to live with it for now, but it's noticable when I have new strings.

I might try to fill it in a bit if I can find the proper method to do so.

If the actual string is lower, then it could be the nut.

I have the same problem, so I asked the luthier about it. He claims it's a common problem. You see that string holder thingy in the middle of the headstock? It holds two of the heavier strings down to create the right angle over the nut. He claims the guitar just needs one to hold down the G string. So the next time I take it in I'm going to have him install another string holder down thingy for me. :)

That could be part of it too. With the locking machine heads you don't have to wind as much string either, so they tend to ride higher.
I wind extra string on the two middle strings. Regarless, on mine that string is simply lower.
I have heard about putting super glue in the slot to build it up, but I din't know how well it would hold up.
