I recently sold my 2001 Fender Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster. When I bought it, I spent hours playing every Strat in the shop from MIM Standards to CS Masterbuilts. I ended up with the JB mainly because of the neck.

It's about the same as a '62 reissue (C-shape, medium thickness), but it has a flatter 9.5" radius instead of the 7.5" on the Vintage Reissues. It really felt great in the hand, meaty but fast at the same time.

Instead of modifying it (the hot noiseless pups were getting sterile sounding to me) I decided to sell it as originally purchased.

Hi, I have a JB Artist Series Strat that I bought last August (approx.). It is my favourite strat (of 6). The build quality is outstanding. It's the standard version rather than custom shop.

I posted a very similar question at another site when I was originaly thinking of buying it ( http://www.thefenderforum.com/forum/sho ... hp?t=33789 ).

I really can't imagine how a custom shop version would be any better quality wise. That's not to say they are not, I've never tried one. It's just that mine is so well built, I can't see how it could be any better.

The Custom Shop model is of higher quality. Examples of this is the pickup routing....the CS model has SSS routing, and the ordinary, Artist series one has HSH routing, because it basically has an Am. Dlx. body.........I've also heard that the neck wood is usually better in the CS artist models, but I never compared neck woods on models, so I really can't tell.

Hi, according to a guy who posted in the thread I linked to above, Fender told him (he says that he emailed them) that both were routed the same (HSH). That's the last post in the thread. He also said that he'd emailed Fender regarding the specs of each and that Fender replied saying they were identical, earlier in the thread.

Well, then you'll be saving yourself quite a few quid if you buy the ordinary one which is supposedly pretty much the same as the CS model.

The Jeff Beck model has one feature that I find very useful. The neck heel is sculpted to be very comfy for your hand in the higher fretting positions. I have a Fender HM Strat with the same neck plate style, and I love it. When playing certain songs, it is nice to have easy access to the higher frets.
