I have a Peavey Wolfgang guitar. I'd like to change the neck humbucker pickup to a pickup that would sound good for blues. Something similar to what a strat single coil neck PU sounds like (but it needs to be a humbucker). Any ideas?

A DiMarzio Humbucker From Hell or Bluesbucker or a Duncan Jazz. Or, have a COMPETENT tech rewire your existing neck HB in parallel (which would probably be your cheapest option).

I say get a good tech to install coil splitter integrated into one of your knobs. It will make any humbucker(even your existing one) sound as CLOSE to a single coil as possible. I really think that nothing can sound like a single coil, but a real single coil.

A coil splitter will allow you to get the single coil tones you want, and switch back in case you even hunger for some humbucker neck tones again haha. It's less expensive than a whole new pick up as well!

Happy playing!

here is a list of pickups that sound very good and warm for bluesy rock tones

Dimarzio bluesbucker
Dimarzio humbucker from hell (this pickup actually is a single coil, the other coil is there for looks)
Dimarzio PAF pro
dimarzio paf joe
seymour duncan 59
seymour duncan pearly gates (I actually have this in a les paul and it sounds fantastic for blues)

I'm sure there are others you can throw out there. Not all of these have a "single coil" sound, but they are capable of producing very warm bluesy tones.

I have the seymour duncan triple shot system in my LP and I can honestly tell you that IMO it is best to buy a good sounding humbucker and wire it in series. I have found very few instances where I use the parallel or coil split and actually like the way it sounds.

If it has to be an actual humbucker I would go with the Bluesbucker.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro with coil tap and the neck humbucker with the single coil function has a real single coil tone but is closer to a Jag/Mustang mix than a Strat but is still unmistakably single coil.

Thanks for the tip guys. The Bluesbucker sounds like a good concensus.

Now, how easy is it to install? Do I just clip the wires from the one and connect them to the new?

or if you want a thick single coil sound, try a gibson p94, humbucker size p90.
it can probably aproximate a single coil.
