Hey ya'll. I've played a 2001 am standard with a Modern C profile. It was noticeably chunkier than my 2010. I've been told they changed a little after 2007. Does anyone know if a 1995 am standard neck would be chunky like the 2001 model. I found a '95 neck for a reasonable price and am interested in getting it if It's the same as the early 2000 models.

I have an American Standard Strat, and a 1999 Strat De Luxe ( usa). These necks look and feel to me the same.

Are you sure your neck is a real Fender ?

Almost all speculation about different years producing different neck shapes is nonsense. Theres only three transitional periods I know of. The 55-56 change from Tele shape into Boat V shape. The 59-61 U to C change. And the 67-69 change from C back to U, that I believe was largely due to the maple capped fretboards.

There have been others, like the Jeff Beck signature guitar that had it's neck slimmed down. Aside from those rare instances I believe it's all down to who's on the sander that day. Really, I don't think Fender introduce a special mandate to alter neck shapes that often.

BShane. You ask a lot of questions about necks mate. If I were you, I'd just go play guitars till I found a neck I was entirely happy with, and buy that guitar. Everything else is easily changable. Altering the neck shape on a guitar is a little more tricky though.
You can always take some off, but you can't add some on.

That's what i was needing to know. The part about different years producing different neck shapes being nonsense. I geuss itslike you say, is all about who's on the sander that day. There are differences in some of the "modern C" necks I've played.

Yes I know I ask alot of neck questions. I have a bad wrist, where I broke it a long time ago. It gets to hurtin' pretty bad when I play for a length of time. My thinking is, the more comfortable neck I can find to use, the less my wrist will hurt. This is the main reason for all the questions. I should probably just do as you suggest and go play 'em all.

Yeah mate, I guessed as much. Anyway, thats exactly how I'd go about it. Play as many as I can and decide my favourite. A friend of mine has a beaut 61/62 ES335 Dot. He's owned it since he was a kid. He can't play it and mostly uses a rubbish Encore starter guitar, because of a athritic thumb. He's got a £20K guitar that he prefers a £60 guitar over.
When looking for comfort, expensive aint always the best way to go.

I have a 1996 AM Standard. It has a very thin C profile I would say. My 1990 AM Standard seems to have a thicker and wider neck, like a D shape. Every one of my guitars feel different, even though some of them are identical models.
