Hey all!

I've just purchased my CP 50's last week in two tone sunburst and she's a beaut. A mate of mine has said it looks a lot like his Jedson strat from the 70s. He has even gone on to say that he believes it is a better guitar than the CP 50's. To me, there would be absolutely no comparison and I would not even hold the two in the same sentence. Could someone, if possible, post any opinions on this jedson strat so I can shut him up for once.

Cheers all, much appreciated,

Jon

Sorry, never heard of a "Jedson" before. I thought I had heard of most of the 70s clone makers.

Where are you located? It could be that brand never made it to the USA back then.

Looks much like a cheap 70s-era copy. :x

Aha - looks like the brand was only in the UK; they never were available here in the USA. Thanks for the link.

I looked at the Jedson"Super-Strat" and it's identical to a guitar that I worked on a few years ago for a guy.His guitar was bought at Woolco(a Woolworth's Co. store)in the late 60s-early-70s and went by the Audition brand name.If my memory serves me right the guitar was MIJ and everything except for the nameplate was the same. The guitar sounded much like the old Silvertones and Teiscos of that era.If your buddy's guitar sounds like one of them and he says it's better than yours I strongly suggest he go to an audiologist.Although these guitar sounded uniquely funky they were nowhere as good as a real Strat.

Just to take this thread sideways for a moment...

The name Jedson awakened a niggling half-memory at the back of my dusty old brain. So I did a bit of Googling and - yes! Turns out Dave Gilmour used to play Jedson lap steels on recordings and on tour right up to the Division Bell shows.

Gilmour playing a Jedson:

And the beast itself:

More info on this page:

http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=69

It says Jedsons were made by several different companies in Japan in the 1960s and '70s under license from Dallas Arbiter, a UK instrument distributor.

Knew I'd heard that name somewhere before!

Cheers - C

I wonder if it was the Jedson steel he used for One Of These Days from Meddle,if it was it had a phenominal sound albeit that it was probably put through a bank of effects.

as long as you like the guitar. take the higher ground and know for yourself that you probably have a better guitar than him.
