Stock is also subjective. Does everyone here play with the stock strings and only buy the exact strings. No modifications to strap buttons, just the buttons only (I know there are a few player that do). With the exception of strap locks, 2 of my guitars have only Fender replacement parts. The only other non-stock items on one is a Dimarzio SD and 500 k volume pot. I do not know many professional players who leave heir gear purely stock.

Every one is looking for something specific. For those who have purely stock guitars, they found special guitars. But Leo did make his guitars to be modified to the players choices of parts. As for me, I have 3 killer guitars right now, and would not trade them for just any stock guitar. Just my 2 cents.

Is it? I think you can easily find a 'stock' strat picture for reference.

It has to look like this.
Image

Have no tone control for the bridge pickup.
Same polarity middle pickup.
No rosewood boards.
No 2 point trems.
No 5 way selector switches, must be 3 way.
Slotted tuners.
Standard strap buttons
1 ply scratch plate
54 shaped controls, made of polystyrene.
21 fret neck.
Heel truss adjustment.
Telecaster string tree.
Two colour sunburst body.

That's a stock strat in my book. Anything else is a mod, even if it was on there from new.
Not that mod's are bad, not at all. Just that the 54 is in many ways the pure strat, the first release.
I don't own one that meets those specs. The modern instrument is a bit of a different animal.

My guitars vary. Some are stock, most are not.

No offence, but your stuff is cheap.

Your strats aren't even Fenders.

Your teles are Squires.

Your les Pauls aren't Gibsons

Dude, it really doesn't matter how expensive your crap is. I've heard some really terrible tones coming from Fender Clapton Signature Strats, Gibson Les Paul Customs and more. But I've heard some really great tones coming from Squiers, MIM Fenders, and import knockoffs. Why is that? Because it's really the player, not the gear. Granted, better gear can make you sound better. But practice is really what matters more.

Back in the...[ahem]...old days, we had one guitar and played it a lot. The times have changed with the advent of technologies and it seems that many don't grasp the practice/playing part of having a guitar anymore. It's kinda too bad, IMO.

I really agree with you on this. My first electric guitar back in 1984 was Peavey T-26 (a Strat copy) and I had a $30 Amp that used batteries. I bought it used in NY for $150.

It was a great guitar and it was all I could afford at the time.

I stand by my earlier comments, however, that strat looks awesome. I'd trade all 3 of my guitars and one of my kidneys for that guitar (lol) if it was truly orginal. Thanks for the pic.

The one on the right is a '73 that was all stock and naturally road worn
and fetched a good 5x what it cost me new, when I sold it in '08.

Why would anyone come on here to belittle someone else's collection?

Aside from missing the exceedingly nice JV Strat, you know nothing of the quality of those axes. I see some really nice playable instruments there. Obviously well cared for and loved.
A lot of sonic ground covered in that collection.

It is almost always poor players that try to cut down other people's gear.

"You need more practice, not more gear!" advice I got 25 years ago, just as true today as it was then. i just have a little more expendable income to buy toys with.

It's for the same reason that some 'men' have to drive a massive motor to feel adequate to get on the road.
Small willy syndrome.
A real man can drive a Fiat Uno and be nonplussed about it. Not bullied on the road. Got nothing to prove, can get from A to B in whatever. As long as it works and theres petrol in the tank.

Though we all like nice motors. Some own em, some don't. It doesn't change the fact you can drive.

Same with muso's. Some can compose by banging on a wall and a couple of tin cans. Some have to have a ££££K this into a £££££K that before their 'creative (ahem)' juices flow.

Funny how most sound like their playing budget gear.

(thats my diplomatic answer. Please don't ask for what I really think)

Trying to ignore the bashing of other people's gear. To be honest with you, crmartin has some nice stuff there, I'd be proud to own them too.
