NO.

Are you an art critic, or a guitar player?

I believe it is because the thinner undercoat they are using. There is nothing wrong with the finish. They are not cracks. It is because the wood grain comes though more under the poly. You will notice it when you look at certain angles which gives the impression that there are flaws in the finish, but the poly on top is smooth .

I noticed this on my Stratocasters too. It's the grain of the wood showing threw the finish not cracks. Better to have a thin under coat than wood filler to fill in the grain. If you look closely you will see it's the grain of the wood not cracks. You may also see were the seams of the wood meets. Some new guitars have a finish so thin it feels like there is no finish.

I just bought my American Standard Black Strat (rosewood scale), simply the best guitar I've had in my hands, although I've played many. I just fell in love with it, Fender should be awarded a prize for making this particular guitar.

Anytime I pick it up I am delighted about its playability and sound.

So, I've looked at its finish up close, and there they are, seams and grain beneath the finish... It's wood in there, friends. If you have a thin finish, the wood will likely resonate better and yeah, you will see grain and seams.

IMO, that's normal.

Keep this in mind, you answered your own question with temperature Changes.
I work at Fed Ex part time and I see a lot of guitars in boxes coming thru the distribution ground network. Now it is winter, temperature inside the ground freight trailers is often colder than the outside air temp. When it gets to 30 degrees F and lower contraction of the wood and the finish occurs but at different rates since they have vastly separate elastic properties.
There is not going to be anything you can do about it.

But you can wait and buy a guitar in the summer or fall, in the attempt to maximize the likelyhood that your guitar is being shipped during warm weather.

Man, you're not kidding !!

Here are some pics of my FSR American Vintage ’57 Stratocaster LTD. ED. after spending 22 hrs. on a FedEx truck from Mpls. to Boulder, CO. @ -25°F :

You would think after 60 years Fender would have solved this all-too-common problem on Strats, EVERY one I've owned has developed cracks in the finish of the neck pocket within a year and like many others experiencing this issue I don't beat or abuse my guitars

They could change the neck pocket specs... but don't feel there's any real "need" to do that.
There's nothing wrong with the design... and frankly, nothing wrong with how Fender applies a finish. Those craks occur often due to the stress point(s) inherint in how the neck bolts into the body. Body wood cracks would suck though. I've have heard that it happens but, I have personally never had a problem with this on any of the Strats I've had.

Finish cracks are part of the whole thing (and dings...)... time marches on and... these things happen. It's normal. Only exception to this is if the guitar is a "Show Piece" instrument... never played.
I play my guitars and expect these things to happen... It all contribute to the guitar's "Mojo" for me. But everyone's different :D

That's why I've given up on Fender Strats and go with the laminated hardwood bodies of the Korean-era Squiers, I NEVER have to worry about the wood splitting. Hell even after five years the two Squier Strats I've repainted with Krylon spray paint and wet-sanded haven't developed "finish cracks". What's funny is my Jagmaster, Lead II, Lead III, and Affinity Tele have NOT developed "neck cracks" and the Leads are nearly 40 years old. Since corporate won't address the problem it's their loss.

I just purchased a MIM Deluxe Lonestar Strat (Black with Rosewood serial no. MX1341663) from Music Go Round. Excellent condition, plays great and sounds great. The body finish looked flawless until I got it home and noticed a number of tiny long cracks under the finish noticeable only at certain angles under the light. There are more than a few of them on both the top and back of the guitar. If I slowly move my fingers over some of them, while the finish is smooth, I can feel some slight irregularities. Should I be concerned that this is something that will eventually crack through the finish? I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

@bsamala8794

Since your strat is MIM, it's Poly-finished, not Nitro.

I expect that since Poly is the more durable, that these cracks are now stable. It's still possible to crack Poly, but these sound like they happened while the Poly was curing, but not totally cured. Changes in humidity, temp during curing like when someone opens windows, doors or loading dock bays could cause this.

cheers!
