this site says the serial number is legitimate. 2001-2002 mexican, serial numbers are easily faked though. Some pictures of the guitar would help greatly.

I'm not sure that the site has a database of serial numbers, it seems that it merely looks at the first few digits to determine where and when made, and the number of digits after to determine if the correct number of digits are used, as long as you type in a legitimate number scheme. So, I would say that the site doesn't guarantee that the Strat is legit, just that the serial number scheme is legit. Nothing that can't be determined by knowing how Fender uses the numbers and letters. For example, MZ1: is M for Mex, Z for zero, and 1 for one, Mex-zero-one, Mexican model made in '01 or '02.

If you type in any 5 or 6 digit number after the MZ1, it will come up as legit. Example, MZ100000, MZ1000000, MZ199999 and MZ1999999 are all listed as legit. I am not sure that they made 1,000,000 Mex Strats that year, and then made another 100,000 and used both 5 and 6 numbers after the MZ1. That would be exactly 1,100,000 Mex Strats that year, not counting signature models, and models that use other numbering schemes (no more, no less, exactly that amount). That would be over 125 guitars an hour, 24 hrs a day, for 365 days. I guess that it's possible though.

Not sure, it is a high serial number.
I also have a Mm Strat of the sane year MZ1179537
Ice blue mettalic with rosewood fretboard. The color reminds me of the paint job on a 57 Corvette.
They are a great guitar and that's why I bought two.
Enjoy yours.

Shed the serial number to
customer relations@fender.com
They should be able to provide you with information.
