I have a 2008 MIA neck to fit on a beautiful sunburst 2009 MIM Deluxe Player Strat Ash body. The Deluxe player body has a 6 hole bridge mounting set up. I bought a vintage spaced bridge from GFS and it fits the body holes correctly but the "E" strings somewhat angle off the neck on both sides up above the 12 fret. Now after reading, I take it I have a 2 1/16" neck on a 2 7/32" body and they don't mesh, so to speak. I did not realize mating them them would be a problem.

Is there a bridge that solves this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi oneal lane,

Callaham offers a bridge for just such a predicament. It has the vintage mounting hole spacing 2-7/32 inch so it will fit your DP Strat mounting holes, with the narrow string spacing 2-1/16 inch to keep the E strings away from the edges of the neck. V/N, Vintage Narrow.

From the Callaham site:
V/N Model: This is a complete assembly that has vintage 2 7/32 (56mm) mounting spacing but with the narrow 2 1/16 string spacing. It will fit any body with vintage mounting. It is specifically for those who have the E strings too close to the edge of the fretboard or use humbucking pickups. Your strings will now be better positioned on the neck and line up over the poles of humbucking pickups.

That's the same trem measurements that come standard on the American Special. 8)

Worst case scenario, your neck is not aligned with your body and the holes may need to be filled and re drilled to accommodate the neck if it is way off. However, some have gotten away with placing some shims along side the neck pocket to adjust the side to side angle of th neck.

Thanks everyone,

I do not think its an alignment problem, but then again this begs the question: What stratocaster neck is wider than the current american standard? If the string spacing is so wide on this bridge that it near runs the strings off the neck what stratocaster would it ever fit. Vintage strats had narrower necks, I had thought.

I do know the Deluxe Player has a 12" radius fretboard, is that the correct application for the wide spacing bridge. But then vintige strats are not 12" radius.

I am lost on this one!

Boy...
Your strat body has 2 7/32 mount hole spacing right?
If I am understanding that correctly then I think I understand what your problem is... On strats with 2 7/32 string spacing you will find that the strings are VERY close to the edge of the neck all the way up. This is just how they were designed and if you are used to them it's "normal". On strats with 2 1/16 string spacing, like the American Standard, Highway One, American Special and Standard (MIM), the strings lie more "inside" the fret board and don't ride along the edge.
I think your problem is that the nut slots on your neck are cut to fit 2 1/16 spacing. They are probably well inside the fret board at the nut and riding along the edge toward the upper frets?

Anyway, I'm guessing here without seeing your guitar but my guess is that you either need a bridge with 2 1/16 string spacing or a nut that is cut for 2 7/32 spacing. If I'm right either one would solve your issue. Hope that helps.

By the way, Callaham does make a vintage narrow bridge but... If you float your bridge the Callaham top plate won't work for you. He spaces the six mount hole screws farther from the sustain block screws than Fender and the result is that you cannot dive the whammy very far before the block bottoms out. If you deck your bridge it won't matter. His saddles, block and trem bars are nice. I have them in both my strats. If you float your bridge you'll need a top plate from an American special or highway one. Or just the whole bridge...
Hope this helps you get it running better.

Thanks, I might end up with the Callaham bridge. I use trem very little and never dive. Others have suggested the Highway 1, or American Special bridges would work? I would have never bought this body if I knew then what I know now.
