I just watched two videos on John Mayers black one and its history. He talks about the technical side of things as far as the relic. Really making me want to get a guitar reliced.

after watching him play the way he does live and thinking damn this guy can play anything, then watching him in the youtube video fumble and stumble through his own songs. it was kinda cool, it brought a real human element, whetherhe was nervous or wahtever.

To me, it just sounded like a competent guitarist on any high quality Stratocaster. I've heard it all before a hundred times.
I admit that I know nothing about the man or his music. I do know that this guitar has legendary status. His explanation of the finish on his guitar makes absolutely no sense to me. He seems like a good guy though.
Maybe now I will check out some of his music. I mean no offense to JM and his fans.

Mark, no offense man, I'm not selling that product.
John Mayer can play, all I'm saying is that for Eric Clapton
And Robert cray to say that they are fans, that says a lot.
But check out some of his music, and you be the judge.

I'm a big fan of his music and admire him as a guitarist, I have his live DVD (I think it's called where the light is?) and his guitar work is amazing!

He does come across as a bit of a prat at times though

Yeah for sure. I'm sure he's great. I will eventually look into his stuff. It's just that I'm not convinced when he says that the relicing is for technical reasons. He wanted a beat-up looking guitar like his hero SRV (nothing wrong with that). If it were just a matter of having less paint he could have done a neater job, or just sanded the entire back and sides.

Fendersonly (OP) said that this video made them want to relic a guitar. My response is "not me".
Again, no offense intended to anyone.

RE-liced? I never thought they had lice in the first place...

OH, you mean, "relicked"...

Perhaps you could start out by relic a guitar case and then move on to relic the guitar. "At the end of the day" you will have a matching relic guitar that looks period with the relic case.
