Hello Folks. I`m new to this forum, and new to Fender guitars. Have had a lot of Gibsons, and Epihones. I just bought a new MIM Strat, Candy Apple red , with a maple neck. If I can get the guitar stabilized, and acclimated to it`s new home, I can see some very good possibilitys for hot rodding. It has to maintain a very good setup first. I wouldn`t want to spend money on a guitar that isn`t stable Does any one have a similar guitar? And do they become more stable? When I first brought it home, the tuners as well as the neck were loose. I tightened every thing up, Adjusted the truss rod, Put extra springs in the tremelo, set the intonation Etc. I may have made a mistake in tightening the six screws on the bridge up so the tremelo can`t move. I don`t like mechanical tremelos, have learned to do it with my fingers and wrist. It stays in tune now very well. The bridge is raised from the body approximately 1/8 ". I would like it setting dead on the body. How do I do this without loosening the 6 bridge screws? Or are they supposed to be loose enough to allow the bridge to rest on the body ? Essentially, what i am trying to come up wit is a hard tail. I can`t complain as yet, about the toe. I run it through a Peavey Classic 30, and have infiite tone adjustment with it.. Any input would be greatly appreciated:roll:

You should have left the 6 screws alone. To get the bridge to sit flat you need to tighten the 2 screws on the claw that is inside the back of the guitar. Make sure you loosen the strings first.

Oh and BTW, Welcome to the forum.

That's a real good idea: give the guitar some time to stabilize before you rush out and spend loads of money on replacement parts.

Wait to see if it's worth getting the upgrades.

Thanks Chet. I loosened the 6 screws enough to let the trem sit back on the body. Then tightened the claw screws. With 5 springs in there, I dont think it`ll be a future problem. I have a lot of guitars, and now this seems to be the one I grab first. I get some great blues tones out of it. Great setup, cnsidering it was unplayable when I bought it, or certainly not the way I like them. I only hope it becomes stable. No tuning problems other than cheap tuners. Left it set all night, and it was still in tune this A.M. Do you know of any problems with the stability of these guitars? MIM. Anybody?

You have nothing to worry about, your money was well spent. The mim Fenders are probably the most stable out of all the lower line guitars made today.
