I like the look of Les Pauls, especially in burst colours.
I don't own any Gibson products at the moment, but in the future if I ever have some extra money that has no purpose, it will go to a Les Paul Supreme or something.

But no matter what, my Stratocaster will be the one I pick up first.

I suppose where Gibson made the Hendrix "Strat" Fender could get away with making an Explorer but I think that things are fine the way they are.Having said that though I'd like to see Fender reissue the humbucker equipped Starcaster from the 70s and bring out some new humbucker guitars on new design bodies not on Strat,Jaguar etc. bodies but complete new product lines.BTW I have 6 Epiphones and one of my alltime dream guitars is the reverse body Gibson Firebird VII so I'm far from being a Gibson hater.

The guitar companies will make anything, if there are people willing to buy it...
...Look at roadworn/relic guitars....

Anyway... My opinion is that huge companies like Fender, Gibson etc should only make their own models and that's that.
Copying famous designs is what lesser/smaller companies do, and shouldn't be done by those two...

P.S.1 The Gibson Hendrix Signature (if it was a really true model) it's a completely joke. It's target group should only be children of the Gibson employees that are hendrix fans and whose parents won't allow them to buy anything outside of their companies products

P.S.2 I googled "Gibson Strat" and those two came up...

P.S.3 I wouldn't mind though a neck-through Stratocaster...

well i own a strat and a epiphone. both great guitars i just like the strat a bit more because of the neck shape. but still no gibson hater here :D both companies have their ups and downs and its a matter of taste... BUT NO FENDER EXPLORER! dont like the idea. :)

I have owned and still own some nice Gibsons, but I always gravitate back to a Strat, especially an Ultra wired Strat. I love the fat sound of a Les Paul, ES Series, and some of the other models, but I could always get more variety with a Strat. I love those hollow out-of-phase Strats sounds as well. Gibson has tried to copy that on some of their guitars, such as on the 6-way rotary switch on the L6-S, but it never really sounded like a Strat. Like I posted earlier, back in the 70s and early 80s both Fender and Gibson did "look-a-like" guitars. They copied each other to try to take each others market places. They finally stopped and both just did what they did best and made the guitars than made them who they are.

I believe Gibson and Fenders each have their place. They both have distinctive sounds and each serves a purpose to every guitarist. Some may disagree, some may not. Personally Fender has come close in tone with their Spalted Maple Tele or their new blacktop series. I think the new Blacktop Jag is the closet thing to a Gibson Explorer that we may ever see. I doubt we'll ever see an American verison of the blacktop series, but with 22 frets, no one really will know its not American from a short distance.

I like Les Pauls, 335, 336 and the other acoutic electrics. ther is a to love about Gibson.

But personally, I find all their other solid bodies unappealing and downright goofy ugly. i.e SG, Flying V, thunderbird, explorers.

firewood!

Fender might need to make a mahogany strat with HH configuration, that would do nicely. (perhaps they have?)

Fender does have a Deluxe Strat in Mohagany that's already a HSS strat. I'd bet you could put in a humbucker in the neck if you wanted to.

I am primarily a strat player , but my LP delivers that crunchy sustain that my strats cant. But my strats both have their smooth buttery tones that cant be beat , and their out of phase tones are sweet.I agree, different animals all together.

I've only played two gibby's:
A SG (Which I would have to pass on, it was headstock-heavy and would always tip over)
and a 335 (which was a pretty sweet guitar)

I feel like I can't really judge the brand as a whole... but I'm not to sure about the "robots" and the other things gibson has been releasing...
My two favorite brands have to be Fender and Taylor... just my two cents worth 8)

I've own a few Gibsons and for the most part I like them. I find that I like Fenders better.

I don't really use the Les Paul have write now. It's beautiful, but it just sits on the stand for the most part.

I really hate the material that Gibson uses for their nuts.

I don't believe that Fender should bother making an Explorer style guiter.

The best Les Paul I own slaughters all my Fenders in terms of... everything, but I still leave it in the case. It is too expensive to play freely. I feel more comfortable playing a Fender.

I know that if my Fenders fall over the headstock won't snap off.

I'd like to see this Les Paul. I find LPs a little limited in tonal versatility. I own a really sweet AAA flame top Ice Tea burst Standard, but my Clapton Strat creams it. My LP has really nice sustain and the neck is very easy to play on, but it weighs a tone.
I just feel like more of my personality comes out in my playing. Also the fact that Fenders have a cleaner sound means that bad playing can’t be hidden by thick mid-range.
I believe that it was Greg Kock who said something like, “When you’re playing a Telecaster and your bad, the suck button in on.” It takes more effort to play a Fender guitar, especially Teles.

Lastly, you can get a Strat to sound like a LP, but you can’t get a LP sound like a Strat.

By the way what kind of music do you play?

Fenders tone and style would not fit the clasic metal style guitar body. It would be super cool if they could combine the two bodys, strat horns and an explorer back, awesome!
