Back in the 70s and early 80s both Fender and Gibson did look a like guitars. They copied each other to take each others market places. They finally stopped and both just did what they did best and made the guitars than made them who they are. I have both and love both.

That's correct. The Explorer is one of the cheapest of the Gibson models.

There are plenty of other manufacturers that make Explorer copies, no need for Fender to do so. It's a popular Heavy Metal body style. Look around.

I don't have a Gibson Explorer, but I have an old Dean version of that body style: they called it the Z, flame maple top and DiMarzio pickups.

i love gibson to. I own a gibson j-45 and its just a amazing. I still own a seagull and ibanez acoustic and love them but there something about playing the same model guitar that greats like, Guthrie, Dylan, van zandt and Ochs played is just something.

The way i see it both fender and gibson make great guitars but they are different. Gibson and Fender are both great. Saying i hate gibson or i hate fender and refusing to buy a fender or gibson is terrible because that person is missing out.

And no fender and gibson have tried to re create a few of each others guitars and they are never as good as the original. And besides would you rather say i have a Fender knock off Explorer or a Gibson Explorer.

Right know though I think Fender is the better company because they are moving forward while gibson is moving backwards in ways (firebird X)

I don't quite agree that Fender is moving forward. They do just as much looking back (vintage, classic reissues, etc) as Gibson. One thing in Fender's favor is that they don't put together as many monstrosities as Gibson. Actually, I can't think of a single Fender that I'd call a monstrosity. Gibson has had many, like the upside down V,
the holy explorer, and this thing:

Okay, so this one isn't quite as bad as some of the Guitar of the Month "beasts" ...

Reventon1, This Forum really is not the place for this kind of attitude. Most of us on here try to be at least respectful with those we disagree with. Don't ruin it a good thing by being rude.

I Like Stratocasters!.........................And Paul Reed Smith, But I can't seem to save up that much money before I spend it on something else. Oh Well. I wouldn't want them to compromise the quality just so I could afford one. I do love my Strat! Gibsons?, Well If I was going to spend a Few Grand, It would be on a PRS! 8) BTW Xheferi, Nice Herd.

Xhefri, you are clearly the master of the strat Plus & Ultra. I'll bet the Ultra in your signature provides some good motivation!

The terms Fender and Gibson need to stop being used in the same sentence, unless you're talking about guitars having made a huge historical impact in music.
