No Offence to all of you Gibson haters, but I love Gibson. i really love their Gibson Explorer, but it is way too expensive, because it is a kickass guitar. Do you think Fender should make an Explorer like guitar??

Count me in the "no Fender Explorer" camp as well.

I don't know where the OP is located, but it seems like you can turn up a used USA one from the 80s or 90s fairly cheaply - seems like the last one I saw around here (a couple of months ago) was in the $800-ish range; it was just plain black and it wasn't an Historic or anything.

I also like Explorers. But I had one in the 70s that was bad $@!. My be Fender should make LP's also. NOT. Explorers are what they are because Gibson make them. Try the Epi's there not bad.

The Explorer is a fine guitar, but we'll leave it for the folks at Gibson

First off welcome to the forum.

I do, like everyone else that has commented so far, believe that a Fender "Explorer" like guitar is not neccesary.

Like mentioned earlier you can look at the less expensive Epiphone explorer

OR

Fender owns a company called Jackson guitars and they make a guitar shape called "kelly" which is similar to the explorer.

Hope I helped.

I like explorers, but I will admit i could never get used to the balance on them.

I think at the very least the major brands should stay away from copying the iconic models. fender and gibson have pretty different niches, I wouldn't like a fender explorer any more than I would like a Gibson telecaster.

Explorers aren't that expensive. At least they weren't until their price was raised again. Used though you can frequently find them for $1000 or cheaper depending on finish/condition.

As for if Fender should make an Explorer style guitar, it be kind of hard seeing as Gibson has patent rights on the body shape. Plus imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I don't think Fender really wants to flatter Gibson. Sure, there is a level of mutual respect, but you don't copy each other's stuff, that's just poor form.

You must be mistaking this forum for another :?
Used to have an LPC, wish I still had it.
Welcome anyway.

Fender does not need to copy other's designs, that is like asking if Audi should design a WRX
Your'e a funny guy

I personally quite like the explorer, but I wouldn't use one as my main guitar.

I love Les Pauls, and the archtops such as the ES-335. I hate the SG though. Never liked it, doubt I ever will. And I'm not biased either, I love Strats and Mustangs but by God I can't stand the Telecaster. It has very little appeal to me.

Anyway, to round off, i don't think Fender should make an explorer-esque model.
