Hi! I have a question about 70s reissue strats both Mexican Classic 70s and American vintage 70s. I noticed that guitars issued since 2007 or 2008 began to have a wrong distance between 12th fret markers (distance became wider and the same as on 50s and 60s reissues). You know it's not right. Why it happened? Are the factories going to correct that mistake in future?

Hi burry,

Actually, the spacing has finally been corrected on some models, as the originals (50s) had the spacing of the twelfth fret dots almost directly under the A and B strings. It seems that the headstock and twelfth fret dot spacing were two of the first things that CBS screwed up. Even the first AVRIs had this dot spacing incorrect, and was only recently corrected to the proper positions, while the first Japanese RIs had the dot spacing correct at the beginning. :? Although I have warmed up to the whole 70s Strat look, incorrect dot spacing, big headstock and all.

If the '70s Strats had a specific spacing different than the '50s and '60s guitars, then the reissues should keep that same spacing instead of trying to "correct" anything IMO.
CBS may have screwed up a lot of things, but headstocks and dot spacing were not one of them. I grew up in the '70s and spent countless hours looking at pictures of Ritchie Blackmore and Jimi Hendrix. As a consequence, I don't even look at Strats that don't have the big headstock, period-accurate dot spacing or a vintage-style bridge. I even dislike 5-way switches, lol.
Let's keep the reissues faithful to the originals. :)

Thanks for your replies, guys...
It would be very interesting to see an answer from some Fender representative or factory manufacturer.

If you want an answer from a Fender rep, then contact Fender. They are not going to respond to this forum, let it go. This is like the kid tugging on mom's skirt, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom.....
