I just picked up an American Vintage Ri 70's bridge pick up for a good price with the intentions of replacing a seymour duncan I had in one of my strats. Well to my suprise this pick ups has way to much treble for me I did tame it alot by rolling back the volume but over it just sounds very harsh and I had to adjust my amp to suit this one pick up. Has anyone else noticed this ? I did adjust the height and messed around with it for about 2-3 hours.

Well anyways im looking for a very nice set up pick ups for my 62ri. Or are the 62's as smooth as it gets ?

The '70s AVRI pickups (all three of them) seem a skosh bright to my ear too. You might try adding a base plate to fatten things up some. Wiring it to your lower tone control might also tame it.

Best of luck, HTH

two things brother

1 If you did not add a jumper wire across the 3way switch
for tone control on bridge pup pretty much no matter what pup
you put there will be too bright including a 57/62 (the pups in the aforementioned
62 reissue)

2 if you have done this mod or still find pickup too bright after doing so
your best bet is toget something wound a little hotter Fat50's bridge
duncan ssl-3 or ssl-5 work good and I hear the cs54 (with tone control
on bridge mod) is one of the best sounding bridges

FWIW MY favorite bridge pickup is on my Am Standard strat and you can pick
those up real cheap like 30 bucks

Swapping your middle and bridge pickups might yield some sonic improvement.

Ok I officially love you guys !!!! thanks so much I did the mod so that The neck pick up has the middle tone pot and the bridge has the Rear tone pot. The middle got assed out but I do think it sound pretty good wide open.

With that being said the Bridge sounds worlds better with the tone around 4 and the volume rolled back to about 9 what a huge difference. Also the Neck pick sounds amazing with my new fuzz pedal with that really fat low end im really loving it this guitar is so much more versatile now.

The only complaint I have now that I have done all that is the Bridge pickup does sound a little thin compared to the the 62ri pickups so Im probably going to swapped it out eventually.

Thanks so much guys

David

I'd recommend a Seymour Duncan SSL 5 for the bridge.

Ive heard alot of good reviews on the ssl-5 in the bridge. Well I play alot of radiohead type stuff so I want something smooth and transparent with some bite.
