With a price like that for a vintage '59 strat, as well as the listing having such craptacular photos as those all seems really suspect to me.

Generally good vintage guitar sellers have the most pristine photos possible to accurately display all aspects of the instrument.

I'm local to this guitar, I will inquire for more pictures. In the meantime though, the wording ("Used: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. ") comes straight from eBay.

Will post what I find out.

Thanks!
Still no answer over here.
I figured it was a guy who doesn't know what he has. But that ebay thing is a little suspect.

If it is a guy who doesnt know what he has I guess I may see you on the way driving, no stop til Brooklyn. :)

No answer here either. What would kill me is a reply saying it was already sold.

Those pictures do suck. If you even get in touch with the seller, make sure to set up an appointment to go see the guitar.....And bring the cash with you in case it is real :D It has all the right features on the outside, and the wear looks legit, but I know those pics leave a lot to be desired! Of course, if the seller knows enough about the guitar to identify it as a 1959, surely he would have to know what he has.........

The whole thing sounds fishy anyway. I've seen too good to be true ads on there before, last time was a killer 60s ES-335. Some guy replied days later, must send cash to some address with some BS story, blabla, usual spammer.
It would be sweet though, the score of the century, the 54 Strat in a barn. But some guy smart enough to put an ad on CL with pictures but doesnt know how to use Google???

The guy knows what it is, he titled it a 59 Stratocaster. Presumably he knows what they fetch too.

$2600 is far too low for Manhattan. There must be 100 shops that would give him double that.

This reeks of a con, I was tempted by some years ago. A 57 Strat and a 57 Deluxe for £1500. Got in touch with the seller, who sent more photos. Said I'd be down to them the next day with the cash to buy the guitar. Then the story came out "oh I'm in Valencia at the moment. Just western union the money and I'll send the guitar and amp FedEx". My reply, "no a guitar like that deserves it's own seat on the plane. I'll fly out but can't be there till Saturday. What currency would you like the cash in?". The reply came back, "I'm flying out to America on Friday".

As well as a load of offers of "show me a receipt that you've put £1500 in a western union account in your wives name and I'll send the guitar. When it arrives clear the money to em".
The guitar didn't even exist. The address in Valencia he gave was a coffee shop or grocers.
This looks the same sort of scam to me.

Exactly, same cookie cutter story. I want to hear from the poor bastard who still falls for that though, under what rock does he come out crawling from, who do they expect to get from those scams???

It's too good to be true for the price. I bet if you send an e-mail you'll get some long story about how the seller is over seas fighting in the war and you have to send the money somewhere and then they claim they will ship you the guitar or some BS like that. Scammer.

I cant believe I just wasted time and read this post. I guess here goes another forum where every other post is: I spotted a FAKE in GC and My friends Strat is a FAKE....Why not just report it to ebay? Better yet, If you want a 59 just call Gruhns or any other reputable dealer.
