The_Nutter,

He might as well get some spelling/grammar lessons, being as how no one has answered his question here, and the question has already been answered where it was asked to begin with, in the "Ask Mike Eldred" part of the forum. Otherwise, every post here is a complete waste. No one has given any input at all above the answer already given on the other part of the forum.

"Correction mania"? Actually, it doesn't happen often enough, if you ask me. Yeah, it would be much better if we were all a bunch of illiterates, not knowing how badly we are mangling the language. It is absolutely painful to try and decipher poor English, especially when you love the language. I think that constructive criticism is a good thing, and a better grasp of the English language is always a good thing.

I think that just about anyone here would not hesitate to offer the correct chords if someone were playing a song incorrectly, and no one would be upset about it at all. Aren't the language mistakes even more worthy of correction? Plus, if a person is going to be on a public forum, or even playing guitar, they had better be able to take some criticism.

Hear, here
There, their, they're
Then, than
Two, too, to
Your, you're
His'n, her'n
(OK, not the last two  )

Leave the kid alone eh?

FenderFlameStrat

Mighty aspirations for a thirteen year old. I'm thoroughly impressed by your ambition.
If you wouldn't mind sharing, please tell us how you plan to pay for such a instrument.

I have my own thoughts on whether a masterbuilt guitar is right for such a new player, that I won't share here. I'm far too impressed by your ambition to dampen your fire with such musings.

 I was thinking of you while posting nikininja. I thought that you might find some problems with our American version of the King's English. There is nothing wrong with helping a person grow. And yes YAWN, everyone wants a Custom Shop guitar, big deal, I'm not impressed. What would impress me is if they actually buy one. Otherwise it is the same wannabe dreaming that we all do.

Gee, I want a Lamborghini, are you impressed? Give me some helpful tips please!

Well, I don't plan on having the guitar until I'm like 16 due to cost
I umpire youth baseball (well youther I shoud say being I'm youth too) and those pay $25 a game. Don't spend birthday/Christmas money. I also change the sign at a local donut shop and that pays somewhat nicely. I'll find a way hahaha

What did you wish for when you were 12 or 13 :?:
Hopefully you did not get shot down in flames :(

A 12 Year old girl ( at the time ) commented to her friend behind me, while in line for the ski-lift one day.
" He used to be our coach, but he ditched us...."
I had returned for a brief visit a year or two later.

Let's keep the cynicism out, there is no need for it...

Now those are some reasons to be impressed fenderflamestrat! Planning ahead, involved in extra curricular activities (that pay $), being frugal and knowing the value of a dollar. Great stuff! I hope that you do get your dream Strat. :D

While you are saving play as many guitars as you can get your hands on. Figure out what you like about each one. Your taste will change as you learn. A masterbuilt is not a dream its something you have the power to control. You just want it to be right. Good luck with it.

You're kidding, right? I'll give you a hint, there was no CS back then. Her name was Barbie Benton. :D

And, c'mon, no one has been shot down in flames.

Because of that response (which I'm equally as impressed by) I'll give you a good reason why a CustomShop guitar may not be for you. I'll start by pointing you to this excellent bit of advice.

Reason being that new players have no real point of reference when assessing a guitar. You could get your hands on the guitar and think, "It's not all that". When in reality it's the best instrument ever made. You simply have little previous experience to draw from.
You may end up thinking all guitars should be like that. When the guitar is really a very imperfect instrument.
What I found with CS guitars compared to production line instruments is that I don't need to do things on the CS guitar that I do on say my 57 Hotrod. Where that note squeaks on the high E string of the Hotrod and I avoid it by going to another position. I don't have to do on my CS.
Thats just one minor example of what I mean.
Anyway good travels and long may your industrious plans be fruitful.

Oh and please don't base all your decisions on a colour option. Tastes do change with age. You may well earn all that dough and decide you don't like the colour scheme.

When I was 16, I helped my father install IBM PCs at his work. Windows 3.2 on 10MB hard disks. 2 years later I bought my first motorbike.

So ... dreams is where it all starts.

Cheers

Anyway...

Fenderflamestrat, a few ideas for you. If you are up for a Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Strat then go for it. A fabulous guitar that'll last you a lifetime.

But if either the timescale or the price give you second thoughts then here's some other possibilities.

There are many independent luthiers who do exactly this sort of job. Their prices vary considerably but they can often be far more reasonable than many people realise. Folks assume that having a guitar handmade for them must cost the same as one of the big company's custom shops, and sometimes it does. But not always. Good work is available at humane prices if you search for it.

I could point you at several luthiers in my country who'd make this guitar for you with ease. Obviously I don't know the market well in your country so you'll have to look around for yourself. The classified ads at the back of guitar magazines can be a good place to start. Most of those makers have websites: take a peek.

Just for example, that is how Forum user ORCRiST got this amazing guitar made for him:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45710

That was done by maker Patrick Sims, here:

http://www.simscustomshop.com/

Sims will make an entire guitar if you wish, but in this case he just did the body and ORCRiST put it together with other parts. No reason why all those other parts, including the neck, couldn't be genuine Fender, if you particularly want the Fender logo on the headstock.

My understanding is that Sims has quite a long delivery time - but not near as long as the Fender Custom Shop. And the final price will be much lower. For him, or one of the many other luthiers out there, a finish such as yours is their stock in trade.

Another option is to just buy a bare aftermarket S-type body from one of the many suppliers such as WDMusic, Allparts, Warmoth and too many others to name and then take it to your local auto body repair shop and ask them to spray it for you in your chosen color scheme. Some people get sniffy about guitars finished by auto painters but all the ones I've seen done this way have been excellent. Electric guitar lacquer essentially started out as car paint, after all.

There ya go: some possibilities. And once this ball is rolling other Forum users with have further ideas for you.

Have fun - C

PS: people are always welcome to correct my spelling and syntax. I shall give those contributions their exact due consideration.
