So, I'm seriously considering getting a Custom Shop Strat when I have the money for it. I was just wondering, if I wanted to get a custom 3 color burst would I have to get it masterbuilt? I really want a masterbuilt but I don't know if I could afford it Thanks for any help!

You should call your neighborhood Fender dealer and ask.

If you don't have a good local dealer, give one of the big internet retailers a call, like Wildwood, Dave's, Music Zoo, etc ...

they'd be able to tell you right away if your concept is possible (and what it might cost -- hold on to your chair).

Did you not beleive Mike when he said it would have to be Masterbuilt.

I think Mike overrides all of us here, so whatever he replied to you is what it is ?
Any way it sounds like you have some time in making the decision as to the specs, I would seek out as many CS's in shops as possible and play them.

I thought Mike answered your question since he's the man at the Custom Shop. If its not shown as a Team Built Color its a Masterbuilt which will cost alot.

Moving on, I don't know how your funds are on this, but have you looked at Ebay like Mike suggested? Just a glance found me a couple of CS three tone 'bursts just on the first page, both for around a grand and a half.

I haven't seen the Mike Eldred forum post. What particular specs are you after that have to be Masterbuilt rather than a more affordable option?
