Maybe. It Was A Guess. I've Never Seen Wear On A Guitar Quite Like That.

It depends alot on the grain of the wood. How many hard horizontal grains are there.

I saw a guy at a jam session once using a quarter as a pick.

I thought to myself I'd have to break his fingers if he came close to my guitar with that thing in his hand.

Can't recall what kind of shape his guitar was in but if he used a quarter long enough, it would look like the one in the photo.

There are a few people who use coins as picks: Billy Gibbons and Brian May both come to mind. I've used quarters; pick shaped shell stone and anything else that catches my fancy. Believe it or not I really like the attack I get from using my figers, but it depends on what style I'm playing.

I, if I have to use a plectrum, prefer metal ones. I make my own out of two pence pieces.
You wouldn't want me near the thing eh Jeff?
They look like Shark teeth.

Nothing wrong with it if the player has proper pick hand control and doesn't just rake the thing across the finish of the guitar.

Nikininja,
it would all depend upon your picking hand technique. :D

On one of my strats, if you didn't dig into the body sure, I'd let you play, on any of my Martin Acoustics, I don't think we'd want to go that route. :)

Some of my favourite picks.

SILVER

ABALONE SHELL

BONE

In the wrong hands, these could do some serious damage to a guitar. I use them regularly and have nothing more than the normal light scratches on the pickguard.
As Jeff said, it's all in the picking hand.
Image ....Mark.

+1 my thought too. There is natural wear for sure but there is some "premeditated damage".

Ummm ........yeah :?

That's kinda what I try to do when I use them. You see, they are made of hard materials, yet I am able to avoid taking chunks out of my guitar bodies.
Are we still talking about pick wear ?........................ Did I miss something ?
