No way is that legit! Fender has manufactured instruments in many places, but in the western hemisphere, ONLY USA and Mexico!

Also Brazil, with the obscure 'Southern Cross' series.

Fenders were never made in Canada, Im almost positive of that.

Welcome.

If you've never seen a Fender Stratocaster made in Canada (which they are not), why did you buy what you presumed to be a real Fender Stratocaster made in Canada?

Please post some pictures so we can see exactly what it is that you bought.

Steve oh no the last time I checked Canada was in the Western Hemisphere,it's that big country just north of the USA in North America of course. But you are right in saying that Fender never built guitars in Canada although Gibson did in a plant in Mt. Pearl,NL. for a period of about 2 years. It puzzles me though why someone would buy a suspect guitar anyway.

There is no single Fender Factory located in Canada.

Fender has had their guitars lisenced in a few countries:
USA
India '89 - '90
Korea early '80s - '85
Mexico '91 - present
Japan '80s - ??? (I'm not sure if they discontued building in Japan).

I also recall them having some built in Indinisia

The serial number indicates that the guitar is an '88 or '89 US made Strat.
Some pictures of the following would be helpful:
the neck plate
the front of head stock
the bridge end of the neck

I hope this helps.

Fender is still building in Japan and some nice guitars too.

Right on! Actually Ive owned a Southern Cross a few years back. It was a really good guitar, I could compare it to the MIM Standards, as it has far better craftmanship then the Squier series. It was made under Fender license by the Gianinni factory, body is made with cedar-rosar, neck is pao-marfim, made here in Brazil in the early 90's. Mine was a BlueBurst, I regret selling it in that time.

That Southern Cross is a lovely guitar, too bad that you parted ways with it.I've always lived to regret selling or trading a guitar, that's why I haven't done anything like that in over 30 years.

In fact later when I sold it the guitar wasnt all of that value here in Brazil, all guys only wanted to talk about american made strats. But after about 18 years later, all the stratoholic guys in Brazil are running after those Southern Cross classified as the brazilian vintage strat, on our ebay brazilian site they're matching about U$1000 now. At the time, 92 or 93 I guess, I bought it new in store for about $300. But my first one was a MIM CAR Squier that my dad gave to me when I was 15. It has the Fender logo and the little squier logo on the end of the headstock. That one I sold for drugs. What a shame. I really regret those two babes, but they still live in my soul.
